Why? There's nothing wrong with the hood. If you're thinking they're going to stop a production line to paint a hood, not only will they not do that but they can't. The paint booth isn't set up for hanging individual parts. Plus there's a good chance it won't match perfectly anyway. Not every vehicle painted is exactly the same. Looks like it next to each other but swap parts and maybe not.

The texture and color will never match 100%. A really good shop can get it 90% or so.

I had a couple good painters (also had a couple crappy ones) where I supervised and you couldn't tell the difference in color or texture in their jobs. Things have advanced significantly unless it's a backyard paint job. That's why researching shops is crucial. Oh, and if you don't like the results have them do it over. You have that right. I used to inspect every job at my shop and with my crappy painters I've kicked jobs back for a redo three or four times. They didn't like me much there. My 24 years in the USAF maintaining and inspecting aircraft made me very particular for perfection.

That's rare. My grandfather was good friends with a guy that had a body shop. He was such a perfectionist and that was the only time I've seen a perfect match. (color and texture)

The majority of body shops doing insurance work are in such a rush to get the job finished and get started on the next one that quality slips.

It just depends on who's doing the work and how good the shop equipment is.

The painters that have been in the career field for the attached ford body shops to the dealers are 10x better than any else in the business.....
As long as they've been there forever, they dont cuz corners....
They've got the best technologies & programs to properly mix & match paint...
    They detrim everything....
    Take windows out...
paint door jams & not just mask them off...
    list goes on...

    Cant say that about toyota..
Dont even know if any toyota dealers actually have toyota dedicated attached body shops?

My local toyota store, owns a Honda bodyshop,
technically same thing, Honda & toyota are on same lot, along with the BS...
guess the Honda bs knows their toyota product at this point...

that being said, they totally butchered my wet sand to remove imperfections in one door....

True in many cases. The method of pay, the lack of techs which encouraged no accountability and the greed of dealership managers is what drove me out of that business. It was too frustrating looking out for the customer when that's the last thought on everyone else's minds.

Silver can be a very difficult color to match ,the way the metallic flake lays can make matching almost impossible

end of the day, match or no match, a respray wont hold-up like factory paint from what everyone has told me.
I personally find hit hard to believe since toyota paint is such crap to begin with, a respray has to be better but guess not...

I would just get a new truck as majority of the colors & configurations are readily available at this point, why not just start over...

If the factory paint job is that big of an issue, I'd go the buyback route. If you're not happy with the hood after the paint shop, I doubt Toyota will buyback the truck at that point.

I remember an old room mate of mine getting his Duster painted. It was black. In Luling Louisiana.
Although I think he had it done in Marrero. Surprised with searching that this shop still exists.
It looked OK, not too much overspray, "new black on old black".

Earl Scheib. "I'm Earl Scheib, and I'll paint any car, any color for $29.95" and I liked this even better... "No ups....no extras!"

Updated update… got a call this afternoon from Sedgwick. (Outfit that Toyota uses for the buyback). Got all the payout numbers and told this will be done in 2 or less weeks. Again I’m actually a bit surprised how smoothly this is going. Able to do the transfer at my local dealer too. Saves me a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge

also have a request with my Toyota dealership to put my name on another rig. Went back and forth about the color with my bride and think I’ll stick with silver. That said…I will definitely have a hard look at it before I drive it off the lot. Once bitten twice… u know!

Sounds like you have your plan in-place, good deal...
After Sedgwick transfer, takes a few weeks for toyota to actually fund / pay-off & process your existing loan.
    Just an FYI....
Shouldn't have any effect on getting approved for your new truck if you locate something that quickly...
Would imagine theres plenty of options on the lots these days..

Second time around I got funding through toyota, my local credit unions couldn't touch the promotion rate toyota was offering at the time.

It would seem to be the case, but if so, you'd think we'd have heard about it from someone among the scores of Tacoma & 4Runner owners who've swapped scooped hoods for flat hoods over the last decade or so. If there's been instances of hoods from different trucks not matching, no one's mentioning it.

I've had my Supersonic Red SR5 for 2 days, 150 miles. Already have 4 new paint chips in it! Never seen any paint chip so easily. One was even on the side of the fender. Three on the hood already. Touched them up and will be looking for a clear bra, at least on the hood ASAP.

Toyota charges more for red which should translate in to a more durable finish. Ofcourse it doesn't take much to chip any paint.

You can thank the EPA for soft paint. It’s not a Toyota thing. Our Mazda is the same, as was our previous 2 Audis.

Which is exactly why I paid the extra $500. With complaints about the paint I read before I bought, I figured they'd care more if I was paying more. Apparently not. I was shocked at how thin it is after I barely touched the door on a smooth surface and chipped it. I couldn't even feel the layers with my fingernail, that's how thin it is. The truck also came with a couple chips in the hood. This is my first Toyota in 50 years of car buying. Part of the reason I bought one was due to the Toyota fan boy's always insisting how durable and reliable they are. So far I have no complaints about the drivetrain. In fact I'm impressed with the layout and function. The interior they cheaped out on with all hard plastics and lack of comfort features but I knew that going in and the new interior looking 1,000% better than the hideous 3rd gen interior made up for that. No electronic gremlins yet either. But the paint was a real shocker.

I like the SR Xtracab in Supersonic Red never seen one in person I could change my mine. Don't want a white one that's a little to fleet for me not that it looks bad. I like Underground but I think that's going to be just as hot and show dirt as much as Black, and thr SR looks real good in black Silver could work it's light.
