Ha I somehow have NOT joined a KTM forum yet. I probably should though, most of the technical chat I get from the " " page on FB.

But yeah I have been wanting to give the 300 a try for a while now and this one was actually owned my buddy who recently passed away in December and who was a mentor to me when it comes to riding.

@BkerChuck got me interested in learning about the Grand Tour / destination rides for points.

Found this place that curates 33 or so spots per year here in the PNW.

    https://pnwgrandtour.com/

Anyone local done one of these, or know of another outfit that puts them on? Looks like SoundRider used to, but they are trying to sell and didn't have one for 2025. Not that I'm looking to do one this year, just thought they'd be fun in the future.

I like that it's scavenger hunt or almost geocache style, but not a fan of set locations. Bookmarked it to look at for next year, possibly.

I just looked at the riders list for that grand tour and know a couple of the players. I've enjoyed doing them for the past several years. Both of the tours I'm currently involve in they provide some basic guidelines of what they're looking for and the rest is on you. Team Strange has also run them where they give you the exact location and that's still fun because there's always a reason that location is picked and you will learn something from it.

Example: this was the original start/finish line for Watkins Glen.

Look at this year's GLMC event!

    https://www.glmc.org/grand_tour.php

You're looking for places to eat or drink and possibly some motorcycle dealerships if you so choose. I took @FreshOldTaco out bonus hunting with me twice so far this year and helped him get to finisher's status already. You'll end up with a t-shirt you won't see everywhere you go and bragging rights for having earned it. Heck, tell me a better idea of your location and I'll even help you out by sending you a list of possible locations.

    Example:

If you do choose to sign up let me know. There's an extra bonus prize this year for bring new people into the event. I've already managed to coerce, I mean convince, @FreshOldTaco and @kidsmoke to give it a shot. I know you and the g/f are getting more into riding and this really does add another layer to it. Sometimes you can just head off in a general direction and stumble across a location that fits or sit down and plan things out and treat it like a rally where efficiency comes into play.

    haha i gotcha.

ya for us we will most likely sit down and plan it out. yes we do sometimes go out and ride at random but we normally have at least a point of interest on where we are going.

I had one last year. Got it used on advrider forum. Tried it 2 times, and probably during the worst time when it was 100 and 80% humidity. Sold it after

I got an XL and im a little on the heavier side, 5'11 and 250-260 lbs (haven't been on a scale). The arm pits were pretty snug for me. That and no ventilation were my only complaints.

I lost some of my pictures, so I don't have that. But id look on advrider for something used first.

The way the GLMC ones are, looks like I could do them from here or anywhere, right? Just find a location that fits the criteria. Neat way to do it. I'm obviously new to this, maybe this is the more common format?

I'd enjoy pre-planning a route that was able to hit multiple.

Correct, GLMC over the past 3 years has been a tour where they give you a theme or general idea and you figure out what fits. They're surprisingly easy on new players and their scorers are volunteers who WANT you to succeed. This year even though they want old diners and dives anything short of new construction will be accepted. No franchises or national chains. They have a discussion board and some riders post stuff there. There is a rider in Australia participating again this year. In 2023 the theme was murals and some of his pictures were incredible. Apparently some ranchers and farmers there get their silos painted with huge murals.

When I went out last Saturday I rode 325 miles and hit 12-13 spots. You only need 20 to be a finisher and get your t-shirt.

Team Strange this year is based on locations from Shakespeare. They produced a spreadsheet of 147 possible locations. Some are real and some fictional. You need 12 locations to be a finisher.
