Anyone got got any good rec's for truck camping around Acadia? Partner, dog and I are headed up next weekend and want to have a night or two in the back of the truck by the ocean. Doesn't have to be right in Acadia, could be north or south too.

Rock garden is a neat spot, pretty close by but you're in the middle of the woods.

Honestly just get a campsite at Seawall or bass harbor imo.

    You can try Smuggler's Den:

    https://www.smugglersdencampground.com/

Located just before you enter the village of Southwest Harbor. On the more quiet side of the island. The island has become certified nuts in recent years in terms of how many people are visiting at one time. Where ever you plan to go make a reservation so you don't get stuck without a place to stay. I am not familiar with "free" places to stay. I am sure they exist but I am also sure they are rare and less likely to be on the island. What do you have planned on your visit? You could also try Schoodic Point if you want to avoid the crowds. Try Schoodic Woods Campground, part of the National Parks Service:

    Schoodic Woods Campground
Schoodic Woods Campground is located 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula. It is the only campground on the mainland section of the park.

    • Season Dates: May 21 through October 13, 2024 (subject to change)
    • Ninety percent of campsites are released six months in advance on the first of each month at 10 am EST. The remaining 10 percent are released at 10 am 14 days ahead of a desired arrival date on a rolling basis. All campsite reservations must be made in advance at Recreation.gov. Reservations cannot be made through the campground office or in-person.
In that same area is the Bluff House Inn and Cabins. We stayed in one of the cabins. Nice, new and clean but not what you were looking for. It is an area that does have some space but they do not advertise that they have any spaces for parking for in vehicle camping but you could call them. If nothing else they might be able to help you find a place to stay.

    https://www.bluffhouseinn.com/

Sounds like you have been to Acadia before and are familiar with the Island?

Some progress on the Cadillac. Need to get some more 2x4s from the stash to finish framing the short walls. Hopefully next week I can get back out here to do that and the roof.

As for siding, I think I'm just going to stain some PT fence pickets and do a lapped siding with them. 10ft length means I only have to cut 6s into 4s and alternate sides with the seam, and the leftover 2s will be used for either side of the door and windows.

Sure did, they look great. They're in a pile in the container, waiting to be turned into timber structure.

This red came out great. The customer wanted the rainbow thread, and I was a bit dubious, but I think the combo is pretty nice.

Doesn't really look rainbow to me. Kind of reminds me of this:

It's a variegated thread - the colors transition in a ROYGBIV repeating along the length of the thread, but because of how it's stitched (saddle stitched), the stitches seem to alternate colors. If you use variegated thread in e.g. a common lockstitch sewing machine, you get much more of the continuous rainbow-like effect since the threads run differently.
