Thats a very impressive rig. But down to a 2.0 pulley? Oh man you went for it, that's amazing!

Fuel pump install itself going well - pulling the gas tank out wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, ran it down to 1/8 tank before the job. But man getting some of those hose lines unplugged yeeeeesh. What a pain.

On the stock pump, it looks like the fuel filter sack thing also had some carbon in it, the new one is just an empty mesh sack. Either that or it caught a lot of mess over the years. That's gotta be carbon.

Did you need any special tools to pull off the hoses? I still need to do this job myself.

Just spoke to Gadget at URD, he seems to think that it’s a misfire, suggested I replace the spark plugs…plugs are brand new…it was a brand new S/C kit. Haven’t gotten around to replacing the fuel pump/filter yet but so far it hasn’t done the hiccuping since last week. It idles perfectly fine, under normal driving conditions it drives perfectly fine. No noises, nothing usual. No check engine lights or pending codes.

    edit***
Was told to check with a scanner for any misfire counts and all is good…0 count.

    Just finished this job up.

Some long 90degree needle nose pliers go a long way. Highly recommend.

I did my job on the ground, used a hydraulic pump cart I have for holding and lowering the tank down/going back up. That was nice to lower it slowly and disconnect things before they ran out of slack so nothing was strained.

And I did pick up a tool from my oriellies to pull that ring off. 16 years of being closed it was pretty sticky, I tried a strap wrench and a few other methods but nothing worked. The fuel pump ring puller tool did a great job, for $20. Well worth it and I needed that for sure. Nothing else worked.

The round nosed long pipe plier would have been nice. But I don't have any. My harbor break special 90 degree needles definitely put in work.

Tank was harder to remove than reinstall but that's just because it was my first time.

In a way, I was getting a similar symptom. When my engine was cold and warming up, I'd get noticeable hesitations when accelerating. At the time, I had also recently installed my SC, brand new, from Magnuson.

For me, it turned out to be my plugs. They were all covered in black soot. After replacing, my issues went away.

My suspected cause was installing a new intake without tuning for it. Once my new plugs went in, a new tune was flashed and never had the problem since.
    Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I'm using an OTT tune through the HPTuners connector.

Since I got the pulley in, and the fuel pump is well, pumping like a champ - it's tune time. Getting this project done slowly. I do still want to replace a couple more pulleys on the main drive belt side but this is coming along.

And yes I am very much still planning to cut that stupid fan shroud in half.

Not exactly related — but at work I’ve seen a handful of faulty plugs from NGK recently. Not sure what comes in the magnuson kit.
Bike at work will run bad until you replace the plug, even though it still has spark and may look fine being a brand new vehicle.

Most likely conterfeit NGK plugs. I've read about that being a problem.

My Magnuson kit shipped wiith Denso plugs, when I bought it about eight years ago.

If it’s only under full throttle it’s possible. I used to recall a similar issue when full throttle at 75-80 felt like its stopped them would come back after I let off. Did you do any other mods?

finally replaced the fuel pump but haven’t noticed. Also never got codes either when it would do that.

    drives well aside from that?

It drives perfectly around town, on the highway. Even when I’m having a bit of fun, not at full throttle,it drives good. I’ve also noticed the upshift from 1-2nd under full throttle, slight hiccup/hesitation there too.

I’m still running the stock pulley.

    - Volant air intake with ram air attachments
    - URD Headers
    - URD SPEC-U exhaust/y-pipe
    - URD cam gears
    - URD UCON EMS

I was even thinking about ditching the UCON but I’m going to wait see after I do the fuel pump/filter upgrade.

    @wrmathis
Is this similar to what your truck was experiencing? If I recall, it was a UCON issue?

Not sure. Hard to say exactly. I did get an updated calibration from Scott at itronix a couple weeks ago. Haven’t driven it to much. The throttle body issue and also found a couple loose connections at the battery so who knows.

if anything it seemed to happen during acceleration or cruise control over 65. I’ve ran it on cruise control over 65 and haven’t had an issue since the new calibration.

Also, anyone that does have a UCON, don’t have the ignition key to on them hold the brake and press the gas all the way down twice in a row then let off the brake. You will put your shit into valet mode. Caused a weeks worth of headaches and emailing between me and Scott to figure out wtf was going on. I did this on accident after my truck died on me one morning.

How can I get a hold of Scott for the UCON?
