i recently noticed my shifter wiggling abnormally only in 5th gear. Im aware that you’re not supposed to use overdrive to accelerate or at low speeds. Its only under load, and is at speeds varying from 50-80 mph. I would assume that a driveshaft balance/u joint issue would effect all gears and not just 5th? In 4th at the same speeds its still and no vibrations at all. Id appreciate anyone elses thoughts.

Mine has also been doing this similar near exact to what you described
It started noticeably happening sometime after new clutch parts and a rebuilt r150F transmission were done at 341k

Have you had any major stuff like that done to your taco?

I went under the truck today and noticed my carrier bearing was loose and driveshaft was wiggling a ton.

and to answer your question, no I have not done anything Like a clutch or any major work recently, or at all since owning the truck.

i dont think its an issue with the transmission, but i would guess that its this carrier bearing thats causing my issue.

I had a new OEM carrier bearing also put on at the time it was apart. The original was sagging quite a bit after all the time and miles
Perhaps driveshaft was put back improperly on mine?? There were yellow markings on the ds to realign it but who the heck knows what those did after all the little things I found to be very off not completed

Could it possibly be engine mounts?
Those are original on mine still that I need to get replaced and see if that will make a good bit of difference

I personally don’t think it’s a engine or tranny mount. I feel like if that was the case, you would feel the shaking in every gear.

I’ve got two sets of wheels and tires. One set creates a lot more overall vibration and shaking in the (manual) shifter at highway speeds. Could be a simple as tire wear/need for balancing.
