Oil changes

I can't do maintenance where I love. Valvoline recommends every 3000 miles. Isn't the truck due for oil changes at 5000?

Full synthetic oil changes every 5k is fine.

 

10,000mi.

 

I always do maintenance before it is recommended.

Nobody will ever say “you are going to ruin your truck because you are changing the oil too soon”.

 

Not unless that information is posted on TW.

 

Toyota says 10k, my mechanic says 5k if you want the truck to last, so I go with 5k

 

Very true. I have seen some very heated discussions on various TW topics over the years.

 

Always seems to happen on a Friday too.

I changed oil on my previous long-term vehicle every 3,500 miles: 2003 Honda Pilot EX/DVD.

Of course, I wasn't on a Honda Pilot Forum to broadcast my maintenance schedule. lol

 

3,000, 5,000, 10,000; pick one and stick with it as it really does not matter.

 

Some say 10k is right. Some say 5k is right.
I split the difference at 7500, so I'm double right

 

The truck will tell you … every 5k if u doing off brand . If oem Toyota oil every 10k .

 

Here is the Owner’s Manual for the 2023. Page 38 addresses oil changes. I personally change my oil before 12 months since I drive about 6K miles per year.

I don't really want to argue in an oil thread, but . . .

Toyota branded oil is an off-brand. Hahaha! Some VOAs have it being Mobil1?


I think the main thing is the API seal and grades, or diving deep into BITOG.

Toyota doesn't make oil.

They don't make oil filters either.

Who does?

The low bidder who will brand it with Toyotas name.

 

I think it is fair to add that Toyota is really good about defining their purchase specifications. It is sort of their hallmark. Of course, Toyota USA seems to be doing everything possible to upset that apple cart. The 3rd Gen era vehicles designed and manufactured here had some uncharacteristic variances. Not on the level of other automakers, but more than we would typically see.

 

I ignore and just reset the Maintenance Required light. I am fairly OCD, so I keep a clipboard in my garage with my maintenance records. If I still had factory warranty then I would document maintenance in MyToyota.
