The number of people who would use a front locker out of need on these trucks is minuscule. it’s a nonsense feature for a stock road vehicle.

FWIW I was at the local dealer here in VA; they had 2-3x more tacomas than anything else on the lot. At least 40. Sales guy I’ve know for years mentioned 20mpg as the hurdle to selling more. I think it is the price… I saw 3 identical white, stripped, fleet spec 2wd Tacoma’s with a $34k sticker . My guy said TRD O/Rs are 50 ish!!! Insane. Dec 2016 I got my O/R for $34k

interesting, there was only 1 Prius on the lot and very few smaller rides like Corollas

TRD ORs are closer to low 40s. It’s only with the premium package that they get up around the 50s.

$34,000 in Dec 2016 is equivalent to $45,000 today. So for the same real dollar price, you get more useful power, more torque, a quieter truck, better drivetrain, better ergonomics, better tech, bigger tires, etc etc etc.

Tacoma might be the only Mexican produced vehicle sold in the US tariff could be the reason. Toyota also sells a good number of Tacomas and keeping more of them on hand would only make sense.

IIRC a Prerunner can or does have locker. Otherwise Toyota has been that way a long time. In my lots of shopping I recall only Ford offered it as an option on many models and a Ranger is a for me near useless like all the 5 ft bed pickups.

I'm pretty sure for my '99 Toyota that was before TRD model series lockers were in a heavy duty package.

A now retired associate who was in product management for 3 auto makers pointed out a whole lot of people want things that don't sell well overall, and my own experience knows a point of costs. I'm sure it is why we still have to get an OR or one of the halo models to include the locker.

Most of the time most people do well enough with a non locker part-time 4x4 system.

I'm semi-retired now, have had several pickups, and just see how changed the market is. My neighborhood is full of pickup trucks. The civil engineer neighbor and I figured out our two are the only work oriented ones and actually off road often. 86% of our sample size are the mall crawl or pavement pansy stereotype. A non locker likely does fine because of their use. More irony in it is prefer driving our cars for how most of those dudes use them. It's not even the fuel economy matter. The cars handle better and are nicer for much use.

    :)

Toyota should let me put front, rear, and center lockers in an SR without making me put the flashy TRD stickers and red accent paint all over everything....

they don't put all the flashy TRD crap all over the cruisers in the states. No TRD required on them to get lockers. WHY?????????

Because it’s a different vehicle with a different branding strategy, and an entry point more than $20,000/60% higher than the tacoma

Why won’t Toyota make me a triple locked popemobile with a 12” raised roof and the ability to win a tractor pull contest with a 200:1 factory crawl ratio?!?!?

And yet, you bought an even higher geared truck with the similar payload and towing capacity.

    Strange.

Can’t put a center locker in an already locked transfer case.
