Just wondering. I have some landscaping chores this weekend.

Not a couple bags from Home Depot. I'm talking going to landscaping supply place and having them dump a yard from a front loader into the bed.

I did like 30 2 cubic ft bags in my short bed haha. It was questionable at best. One yard should be pretty easy to do.

Mulch is really heavy, a cubic yard is much bigger then you think. Rent a uhaul utility trailer, I think the 5x8 without a ramp would be a good choose.

One yard shouldn't be an issue, I don't see that being more than 1000 lb when wet. A cubic yard is about the volume of a washing machine for visual reference.

Is it soaking wet or dry? Massive difference in weight between the two.
A yard of dry mulch is only 500-700 lbs

Big box stores are practically giving away bagged mulch these days. 4 or 5 bags for $10. I'd rather work with bags than bulk any day of the week.

The specs page on Toyota site lists payload for each trim level under the weights/capacity section.

    Hybrid off-road is 1705. Link

I’ve carried about 1500lb in my 3rd gen and it was fine. 28 boxes of LVP flooring on a pallet

    Isn’t a yard about 13.5 bags?

I'd much rather have bags over bulk mulch for weekend warrior stuff. If you're needing multiple truck loads then yeah bulk is best but if you're only needing one bulk load I dont see the point.

I don't like the product in the bag stuff. I get black and it seems the dye they use is still wet in the bag. Spread it out and after a few rains the color fades fast. Usually has mold growing. The wood shred sizes are usually uneven. This year I want to try the bulk stuff.

    Depends on the bag size.

I got tired of replacing every year or two. I went the rubber mulch route. 3 years going and still there with no color loss. Bags show a 10yr color guarantee. We shall see.
Plus way lighter than reg mulch

Bags were referenced as 2cuft further up thread, but yes bag count will be 27 divided by bag capacity

About ten years ago I loaded up a 1990s Nissan hardbody with 30 bags of mulch, we were sitting firmly on the bumpstops. That little 4-cylinder had to work hard to earn its lunch that day, but we made it.

You'll be fine. Just take the backroads to get home with the load.
