Thank you. I'll probably first cut mine after the bend but before it bells out to the larger size..... I can always cut off more.

 

I noticed a slight difference when removing the resonator and switching to the OEM trail pipe. Hadn't given it two thoughts since. However, we did notice that when stuck in traffic on a recent road trip, if the truck is running idle just a touch higher than normal we got a horrid acoustic in the cab that hurt both our heads. As soon as the engine cut for battery idling or we tapped the gas a bit it would go away. So there's a specific frequency emitted at a certain RPM when idling in-gear that does impact the cab. I just have to see how often it happens to determine whether I go back to the resonator and cut off the bend at a down angle, or stick with the trail pipe. I just didn't like the massive chrome flare of keeping the entire pipe intact and original.

 

I had the same experience when I tried the trail pipe. I sit in a lot of traffic on my daily commute and there's a specific resonance at idle that would hurt my head. I also sometimes sit in my truck checking emails when traveling around to different jobsites and occasionally would get the same resonance. I ended up removing the trial pipe and putting the OEM exhaust back on. I'm sure lots of people don't even notice it, but for whatever reason I'm sensitive to whatever frequency that was.

 

Strange. I’ve had none of that, but I have the SXTH pipe. I wonder if there’s somehow a difference

 

I had the ATH Fab trail pipe, but I think it's just a personal issue with that particular frequency.

 

No issues here at idle with the OEM trail pipe. Maybe the manual transmission idles at a lower RPM or something?

I haven't tried sustained nonvarying highway speeds yet, that's where I dread having drone. Should get a chance this weekend to take a small trip.

 

You'll know it when it happens. It goes from being an exhaust sound to a full surround sound drone. It's a very specific idling rpm. Slightly above or below and it goes back to normal exhaust sound coming from a single direction.

 

100%. I've experienced this on multiple vehicles with aftermarket exhausts. Had a buddy whose car gave me an instant headache but was fine for him. Also had an exhaust fine for me but gave others headaches.

 

I might do exactly what the OP did as I want to keep the resonator, for now I had some high heat BBQ grill paint laying around and hit it with a couple coats of that, almost don't see it anymore. If they had it higher to the bed it would be fine this way, we'll see how it stands out after lift.

 

Interesting. Here's how Toyota handles the tailpipe on the LC 1958. Looks like it may be the same resonator as the 4G Taco.

'25 4Runner is the same, I looked at the angle though and the Taco's pipe is lower so I don't think it would look as good.

 

I agree. My 4th gen is supposed to deliver today so I'll have a better look at things in the near future. I plan to do something like this but that may change after I draw lines on the pipe to get a visual reference.

 

The deed is done. First mod to my new truck with only 60 miles. Looks much better.... especially for being a free mod. I marked the pipe with a Sharpie before removing. I didn't jack the truck up (but doing so would have made it easier to remove). I did lower the spare tire. With the lines laid out, I went to work.

I still really prefer the exit point of the TRD Pro tailpipe. The resonator is what's forcing the more rearward exit.

Thanks. I didn't jack up the truck but I lowered the spare tire. Jacking up the rear from the receiver hitch would make this even easier by providing more room between the diff and frame. I edited the OP to add a few details.
