Anyone been out to USAL lately? It's been a few years since we last went. Kind of wrote it off due to the high trash factor but have been thinking about heading up there again as it gets hotter.

Not since last year. The only thing I've heard this year is that the County has unlocked the gate leading north towards Shelter Cove.

Had a great day trip on the Rubicon. Started at Loon and turned around at Little Sluice. It's fun to sit at little sluice and watch different rigs come through. Went for a swim at spider lake and bbq'd some hot dogs.
Since last summer I replaced my stock rear bumper and leaf spring hangers with new ones from BAMF, both of which got destroyed on the rubicon. I also put tube doors on the front and I'm going to put them on the rear. It is a game changer being able to see where you're going when you can lean out the truck. It's also nice knowing you're not going to hit your doors on anything when you don't have doors!
I'm feeling a lot more confident on this section of the Rubicon. I had a spotter going up whale bones but everything else I did myself. I got a little stuck here and there but was able to always find my way.

This guy decided to ride his dirt bike in here for the first time but was struggling hard! Having the right bike and serious skills are needed for dirt biking the Rubicon

Yes it's a really fun day trip! I have also just gone in through loon and out Wentworth Springs or the other way around. It's fun hitting the obstacles the opposite way and seeing how different they are even though it's the same thing.

I would love to get a group of people from this thread that would like to go for a day trip, or overnighter or both this season. If anyone is interested. It would be fun to go out with people that have rigs that are sized similar to mine as it's very different when you're following a Ford Bronco on 42-in tires. The lines just aren't the same!

I could be down for that, @UMC. It's been a couple years since I ran Rubicon, and I haven't gone in from the Loon side or hit Wentworth Springs Rd before.

Sweet! I could do something as soon as 2 weeks from now weekend or weekday. Let me know and we'll try and make something happen this month or whenever.

    That would be awesome!

Running it with similarly built trucks is really the best. @UMC is really one of the few DCLB that I have seen on the Rubicon. I was thinking of waiting until I do a rear shock relocation, +2” up front and 37s before I run it in my DCLB but a day trip in loon and out Wentworth sounds like a good intro. My June is already packed and I was planning to run Niagara Rim in late July so soonest I could join you guys would be mid August.

Definitely can't fit it in this month, either, but August would probably work.

I went back to the Rubicon last Friday through Sunday. It started raining on the way in. Made for cool weather. We spent 2 nights camped at this same spot. On Saturday we went swimming at Spider lake and went for a hike exploring the area. The other people on the trail look at you like something is wrong if you are not wheeling. No one goes for a hike on the Rubicon... Kinda funny.
There are so many bad ass rigs out there. Lots of built jeeps to monster buggies. I only saw four other IFS rigs. Two brand new Broncos on 37's and Two 4Runners on 40's. I get a lot of wierd looks in my long bed taco that sits low to the ground.
Driving up Walker Hill there were two short wheel base Jeeps. The first was struggling hard with the front & rear locked but made it. The second guy gave up and had to winch but only had a rear locker. I dove up rear locked with ease. One of the few benefits to a long wheel base.
However on a tight corner that long wheel base got stuck. I was hung up on my rear diff, front skid, and 2 tires were off the ground. I had to use the winch. Went in via Loon lake and came back out through Wentworth Springs rd. Great wheeling and camping!
