So I acquired this piece from a fellow Cav Blue owner. Before buying/shipping he did warn me that it’s pretty scratched up and there are broken clips. But with my mission to get everything blue I took it. And wanted to make it work

Clips: I’ve never plastic welded but I’m a fast learner, and I still have the original black skid. So thinking cutting the clips from that.
Scratches: I’m not trying to make it perfect but decent, so I gotta look into sanding a little and trying to paint it

So my question is, what would you do? Try to repaint yourself? Just put it on with some zip ties? Just throw it away? Any and all opinions welcome

Also here it is just resting on my license plate. So you can get an idea of what would be noticeable.

A lot of time into such a small piece, (time, labor, materials, paint)but if it’s what u want then it’s worth a try, I’ve done it a few times myself but it was on rare parts that you just can’t buy anymore, mean that’s how you learn right? I will say that if you don’t want to spend alot of time/etc on it it could be the perfect time you could always go the shorty bumper route. Might be an option….like the body armor high life style bumper thread I seen on here earlier today …

Lol well my original is black, so there’s that. But painting that to match the Cav Blue was the reason I still picked up this piece

Or as an alternative has any Cavalry Blue owners been able to find a wrap that matches our blue?

For me, I would see if I could fix the tabs just to see if I could do it. I know some might say it's a waste of time but I like the challenge. The paint doesn't look bad on the part that shows so maybe just use some rubbing compound on it and then polish it up.

Id keep the original black one.

The couple of color matched ones I see on the internet all make it look like they had a MAACO paint job where they paint over everything and you know it should have been black.

Sidebar - It could look really nice OEM Toyota Silver... ...evokes a skid-plate look.

That’s all the flat OEM colors like Cavalry, Cement, Lunar Rock, etc. They all are missing metal flake and look like a primer with a gloss coat.
I know it’s not a popular opinion :crapstorm:

Hmm that doesn’t sound too bad. Last time I looked I hadn’t come across a color that specifies as a replacement for 8w2, thanks!

yeah I may try it anyway since this is a an extra piece. And maybe go from there if I’m gonna paint my black one with the suggested spray paint!

I didn’t even consider this idea, and it might actually work as a very different alternative! It looks sweet in this pic for sure, but I’ll do some photoshop to get a better idea of the look on the taco. Thanks!

I definitely would not take them from the stock one would find other means of getting clips . In case u don’t like the look . Now you have an another one to fix . My two cents .
