Interior wiring options

Hello,

I am going to repurpose the Qi switch as it will never be used to recharge a phone, well successfully, anyway. My question in that regard is does anyone know if the switch is a constant hot or accessory on only? I will probably replace it with another USB port of some type.

Also, the single USB connection on the same panel seems to be the only one that feeds information to the head unit to allow for android auto or iphone. Is there a way to move that capability to the USB in the center console cubby (under your elbow). Is there any reason I should not make one or both an always hot connection such as head unit damage, etc?

 

No idea, but interested to see what other people have done to make use of it since its a useless feature for me as well, so free bump

 

After a bit of checking, None of this is constant hot. I would like to also ask, though, what kind of usb socket it is that does not light up until something is plugged into it please? I have several switches on hand to fit the slots in the panel, but so far each one glows brightly as soon as it has power to the backside of the switch.

Received the last of the replacement parts today that I though I would need and got started with the disassembly. All went well there and no problems. Remember, the plan was to move the USB port (the one that communicates with the head unit) on the switch panel (the same panel that has your BSM, rear window, and Qi charger switch) to the location in the console under the center arm rest and to add a constant hot charging port back into the now empty slot. None of that has worked out.

The head unit USB port has not a wire, but cabling (several wires in a sleeve) connected to it, so there is no way to run that cable back to the center console. That is taking up the space that I wanted to use for the extra constant hot port.

The new plan is to remove the qi charging power switch and replace it with a usb port. I will add an on/off switch on the left side of the steering wheel for control. I have also disconnected the qi charger itself as I have heard that there are multiple power sources for it.
