Hello I am a first time buyer for a Tacoma but always wanted to own one, I have a 6 speed but have been losing power when I tow or haul something… is that normal? Or what can I do to remedy this?

What are you towing and how heavy is it?

What do you mean by loss of power? At what speed, and compared to what? Is it pulling normally then losing power, or is it anemic compared to driving unloaded? What gear are you towing in?

I only towed a trailer that was maybe 84 sqft and was filled with folded plastic tables and chairs. There was like 40 chairs and 20 tables. I am new to owning a Tacoma but my previous truck was a ford f 350 diesel. It just seemed super slow and had to shift down a lot to go.

Huh, interesting; my quarter-ton, V6 Tacoma always pulled like a one-ton diesel. Must something wrong with yours.

@TACO FALCORE - the 3.5 isn’t going to ever pull like a diesel, ever. The engine makes its power in the higher RPM range so don’t be shy to let it rev especially when climbing hills.

What altitude? If it doesn’t have power to spare and then some, towing can gut it and revs can only help if a wide open throttle brings in enough air. Adding boost is a fix.
