Welcome aboard. What are your questions? What do you have? This forum is like any other car forum, but specific to Toyota Tacomas. However, being a member of several other car forums, this one is quite diverse and entertaining.

Thank you , for the welcome . I’m a 68 year old first timer to the world of Tacoma . I’ve owned and driven lots of cars, trucks , motorcycles and Quads throughout the years . But , I’ve never owned a Toyota , till now . It’s pretty cool . But , top heavy “ body roll “ . I’m used to better center of gravity all wheel drive Subaru’s . But , the Tacoma has 4wheel and a lot more horsepower . I’m thinking about lowering it . What can I do besides that . To make it corner better ?

You kids. Always wanting to hoon everything. :p

We have a street truck forum but that's mostly 2wd.

    Standard improvements would be :

Slow down. Slow in, fast out applies here too.

Seat time to understand the nuisances. It's a utility vehicle, not a street fighter.

More spring, better shocks, stiffer sway, firmer bushings. Rear sway addition. Appropriate tires for how you use

Member @Torspd will have some thoughts for you too

I live in the middle of the Huron National Forest . I love this terrain . It’s challenging and the sand and soil is black and tricky . Still getting used to it in the Tacoma . But , it’s a different kind of fun , now .

    That's putting it nicely! lol

OP, you're a seasoned driver/rider and that's obvious from your intro & 2nd post on this thread.

These trucks have a personality that encourage different avenues in pursuit of an expected driving experience.

I've learned my truck's capabilities and don't expect it to perform above its level of engineering.

There are so many goals for each owner it's not easy to pinpoint what we want from these trucks.

One thing is for certain...some members want to make instant changes while others take their time modding/upgrading their Rig.

You haven't said what year/model Tacoma you have which begs the question with photo or it didn't happen! lol

Understanding humor and intent can be an obstacle on the internet.

There's a lot to learn but first...open interesting thread titles and read how members banter back-and-forth to get a feel for the culture of TW.

Get ready for lots of feedback depending on how you engage this platform.

I’m assuming you are laughing at my reference to Gran Turismo . I’m not planning on any @ mods “ until , I’m used to it “ stock “ . By the way it’s a 2010 V6 SR5 /6ft bed access cab 4x4 . Totally stock . And staying that way for the time being . I didn’t realize I would get such a reaction from just commenting it was top heavy ! I love it and still getting used to it !

I bought a Silver 2003 Honda Pilot EX that we purchased while stationed on Hickam AFB, Hawaii in 2002...which was the first time I heard the term, "Top Heavy."

That vehicle lasted me for 212K+ miles before some lady decided to ride the suicide lane and strike me while I was waiting to make a left turn on Oct 3, 2018.

I like 4-doors and maybe that's why I stuck with Dual Cab and a short bed.

Like I mentioned, we all have different intents for our vehicles.

Glad to hear you wanna enjoy the ride and hang out here on TW.

I’m just saying it has “ body roll “ high center of gravity . I’ve been lifting trucks for years . It definitely gets you up off the ground but , reduces handling . I could go on all day . About pros and cons of lifting and lowering a vehicle from intended use . But , for me it’s about having a vehicle that does what you want it to do . So , upgrades are “ good “ if you’re making the vehicle better than it was . When you got it . So far no mods . Keeping it stock . V6 4.0 has plenty of power for me . And 4 wheel and auto trans are fantastic . Not to mention the locking rear differential. I’m a lucky guy ! Rust free in Michigan . I won’t say what I paid . But definitely the best deal I ever got on vehicle of any kind in over 50 years of cars and trucks that I bought . And it’s the vehicle that I wanted since at least 1985 . I love my taco taco !

Nice NA! My beat up, rock chipped ND commuter mule is highly jealous.

But hey, heel-toeing when rolling down the off ramp, then trail braking around the yield sign is highly satisfying to do.

Congrats and enjoy. Midsize trucks really are a strange animal, they aren't fast, nor are they agile. They don't hold half as much payload as you think they should, they aren't fuel efficient, and let's face it, their street handling is about as ungainly as a newborn fawn on ice. But they are durable, they go anywhere and fit everywhere. They do what you need them to do and don't complain about it.

If the Tacoma were an animal, it would be a billygoat. A rude, ugly, filthy creature that conveniently makes your trash disappear and constantly makes you wonder how in the hell it managed to get *up there. I mean, you have opposable thumbs and you can't even reach that ledge if you had a ladder, yet the billy-tacoma somehow did it.

Once you understand and appreciate its nature, it becomes an incredibly fun vehicle to drive. Ungainlieness and all.
