Good leaf springs?

Have you weighed your truck per axle? Black Cat scales will do that for you. That will enable you to determine how heavy of a spring you need to run.

I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with any of the choices: General Spring, Icon RXT, or Deaver U402. That’s also the order of how expensive they are.

Icon and Deaver will probably droop out more than GS, but if you’re not replacing your rear shocks that doesn’t matter.

I Deaver mainly because I got a good deal on a used set.

 

what about OME?

 

OME’s are fine but they squeak a lot and don’t play well with aftermarket spring hangers. (Dobinsons also do not play well with aftermarket spring hangers. Both companies are from Australia and were originally designed for the Toyota Hilux, which uses compression shackles instead of tension shackles.)

OME’s are also shorter in length than RXT’s or Deavers, so they (hypothetically) may not allow for as much droop. They will still droop more than your stock leafs. This is not a concern for you anyway unless you upgrade to longer shocks. OME’s also might not ride as smoothly as RXT’s or Deavers.

Any leaf springs can squeak, especially aftermarket springs, but OME’s are pretty legendary for squeaking.

I ran OME’s before Deavers. They were fine, and my Deavers squeak too. That said, I also eventually modified my OME’s to ride more smoothly by replacing the overload leafs with progressive add-a-leafs.

Generally, a higher number of thinner leaves in a pack will ride more smoothly than a lower number of thicker leaves.

Yeah that would be really dumb, so I sit about 3" higher with the lift and 1" bigger tires. I was thinking about mentioning the front setup and got distracted by work.

OME makes arguably the worst leafs out there. Avoid.

 

I mean … if he finds a used set for $150, it’s going to be better than his worn out stock springs with a 1” block.

 

While it's only been two weeks, I've been happy with my Archive Garage MD springs. They have a fitment chart on their website that shows the "expected" lift at given weights. The pic below is my truck with 1200# of scrap metal loaded in it.

 

I completely disagree lol. I'd take the OEM with the block in that scenario.

 

To each their own. I’ve run both. OME have more weight bearing capacity and longer travel than stock.

Icon RXT with Timbren bump stops. This is option 2 with just the weight of a canopy (2" lift front/2.25" rear after settling.) Have carried 200lbs of sand bags in the bed and the leafs hardly budge.

Add a leaf is probably not a bad option before your leaf springs are shot, once they've started to W, it's borrowed time. You can't expect one or two leafs to compensate and reverse the original three that are already bent like a W.

 

Whoa, get yourself a WDH.

I’ve been running OME almost 10 years now and have been very happy with them. I greased the shit out of the plastic pads during install and haven’t had any squeaking issues (knock on wood). I do a decent amount of off-roading and tow a similar trailer to the one in the post I quoted (e-pro 19fd). With the ome springs and WDH everything sits level. They are paired with 5160 shocks and 6112 in the front.

 

General HDs. 1/2 the cost of the more expensive options and they will do what you need while providing 2” lift.

 

I opted to build my own leaf pack, I got some takeoff 3rd gen packs. Removed the overload and made a 6 leaf pack cutting the leafs 3" shorter each side of the center pin. Paired them with the longer 5100s and they ride fantastic. With a canopy and all of my gear its perfect. Its around a 3" lift over stock. Top 3 of the pack are not modified.

I have a heavy tongue weighted camp trailer with a ATV deck, I added airbags for long trips. Short trips I dont bother with the bags but my tongue wight can be anywhere from 600-1000lbs
