tractor boards questions and self recovery: Florida sugar sand clay

Morning,

Have a 19 SR utility. 2 wheel drive. Take it on clay and sand roads of central Florida near Ocala National Forrest. No real off road wheeling. But can get sugar sand, muddy and or wash out rutts. Any reviews on the vevor tractor boards? Or should I just go with Maxxtraxx? Also.. would recovery rope and or strap be better for hooking my truck to a tree if around 200 feet or so for pulling myself out if tires get stuck? Thank you.

Just my humble opinion. Buy what you can afford, so if that means using your truck floor mat than so be it. But something is better than nothing. And traction boards can get pretty expensive when you start looking into the more complex materials being used to make them (they all look plastic, but they are actually a mix of composites depending on which company). And, once you spin your wheels on them and tear up the nubs....that's it....it's done. I suggest you buy a cheap set first and give them a try before buying something expensive. We always used a sheet of steel (I think they call them Marston or something). I would like to say that if you go off roading a lot and get into this position a lot, think about getting a winch and recovery kit that comes with tree wrap, shackles, snatch block, shovel, gloves, etc.. Safety is key, so make sure you throw a jacket or something over the recovery line also to take away any energy transfer if something snaps (just youtube that up and you'll see all sorts of windows getting smashed or worse). If you go out with a buddy, which is always advised...a recovery strap might be better since the energy straps (like a rubber band) are easy and fast to setup. A lot honestly depends on your situation, but training and knowledge are probably your best tools.

 

Hooking a recovery strap or rope to a tree will not do anything to get you unstuck. You'd need either another vehicle to do the pulling or a winch.
