What materials did you use for each thing and how did you protect against rust vs strength?

As a few of you know ive been designing this and going through different ways to construct this for like a year, I think it really paid off for the most part. Heres what I used and why I chose these things. Happy to answer any and all questions. I really like how it came out and I feel like its also well thought out

    Aluminum vs Steel construction

Decided to go with a steel frame and aluminum where it makes sense. My weight is basically identical to aluminum SET flatbeds and I think itll be just at stout other than my deck surface. Welding aluminum messes with the heat treatment and really weaken it at the weld zone. This isnt as big of a deal with steel. The major advantage I see with aluminum is corrosion but proper coating can solve that with steel. I just used DTM as reccomened by John because this is gunna be worked on but also abused. Easy recoat was a necessity. If this bed is ever finished I'd like to get it galvanized. Also the cost of aluminum is crazy and I am not independently wealthy.

    Channel vs box tube
    • For the same weight per foot I can have a thicker wall (1.5x1.5 0.63 box tube vs 1.5x0.5x .125 channel). I have alot more confidence in welding a structure out of 1/8 than 1/16. I was afraid of 1/16 starting to crack on the HAZ
    • Can coat 100% of the channel where that is not possible with box tube

Aluminum vs steel vs wood vs composite deck
Entirely a weight consideration. A sheet of 1/8 5052 is 56 lbs and the deck uses 90% of a sheet. Any other option would have been double the weight.

    Materials list

    72" Wide x 74" long

    C4 x 5.4 - Big win
2x2 .120 wall box - Consider using lighter wall thickness as rub rail will take the hits
    1.5 x 0.5 x .125 bar channel - Use 1.5 x 0.75, this was not available
    1.5 x 1.5 x 0.0625 box for the rear - Use 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.125 next time. This was a material quoting error on my part. Definitely should be 0.125"
1/4" plate mounts - use 3/16. 1/4 was stupid and unnecessary
.125 5052 for the deck surface - Consider using extruded aluminum decking, plate will probably show wear when using this for work with rocks and wood and stuff.

I've had some of the same music on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD and download. I'm hoping for the neural up-link and done.

I have 8 tracks over in the basement at my mother’s house; vinyl in milk crates in my basement; cassettes in the trunk of the Falcon; CDs in a drawer in the living room. I have nothing connected to play any of this on. Now I ask Alexa to play whatever.
