On Shawn's Silverado the O2 Sensor was so seized that my O2 socket kept slipping. Ended up welding an old wrench onto it and knocking it off with a mini-sledgehammer.

30 days since we found Emily, and neither of us can believe she's gone. I've gotten a lot better in the last four weeks, but I still have flashbacks (in a first person point of view) of me running up to Emily's condo and seeing her on that couch through the window. I also have vivid flashbacks of the lights coming on after the door was kicked in, and seeing that Emily was not merely unconscious. Emily was gone for probably 14 hours or less, and she had the A/C on, so she did not look bad; I don't think it's finding a dead body that really got to me. If I encountered a fatal car crash while driving, I would not hesitate to stop and render aid to the best of my abilities. That's just the type of person that I am.

What gets to me is that I found the dead body of somebody I know. We weren't exactly close friends by the time I found her, but I'd known her almost 20 years, and I did care about her; I'm glad we found her so quickly, which likely prevented a lot of trauma for a lot of people, and almost more than likely saved Hannah's life.

Emily's dad owns the condo where Emily lived and was known to drop in, but he was about to fly down to Florida to take care of his sister who'd just had knee replacement surgery; Emily's mom lives in Oregon, one of her two brothers lives in Maryland, and the other brother is in the Army and deployed in Italy. Emily's ex-boyfriend, the last one to hear from her less than 24 hours before we found her, lives in West Virginia. Emily has a few friends who live in our area, but Amanda and I don't think that any of them would have bothered to check on Emily until three days or more had passed. Everyone knew she was sick and had been for a couple months, but nobody could have imagined how sick she actually was.

I would like to say once again that I would not wish finding a dead body on my worst enemy, especially the dead body of someone I went to high school with and had known for two decades. I can still remember the day I met Emily back in 2006.

I do not know if I mentioned this, but Emily's dad is allowing Amanda to keep some of the ashes, and we are also getting some of Emily's furniture. We were interested in Emily's 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander, but the title is solely in Emily's name, and it's apparently a lengthy process to transfer a title when the vehicle owner is deceased. Luckily, Amanda has a car now that has a lot more character than a white Mitsubishi!

I do not think we will know the autopsy results until July or August, and as a result, I do not think I will have any closure. Amanda and I have a couple theories as to what ultimately killed Emily, but we've been told that it's not good to speculate. She was lying on the couch in her pajamas when we found her, with her eyes closed, which indicated that she had passed in her sleep. There was vomit near her, and her right leg and slid off the couch. She was pale, but as stated above she did not look bad. Her skin also had a yellowish tint to it, which would indicate an issue with her liver.

Hopefully time will heal all of the issues that has caused, I'm sure Emily would not want you to have any pain from it.

The picture in the above quoted post shows the Emily that I think Emily herself would like us to remember. Luckily, it looked like she died in her sleep, as her eyes were closed; Emily took better care of her dog Hannah (now Amanda's dog) than she did of herself. We have no doubt that Hannah witnessed Emily's death, but I hope that Emily was either asleep or unconscious, and that she died worrying for Hannah's safety.

Not even a day after we found Emily, I had a vision where I saw a birdseye view of my truck pulling up to the condo, and me and Amanda running up to her front door; I would like to think that this was what Emily saw, and that she was looking down from heaven.

After reading about you guys finding Emily, I noticed that the neighbor's grass was about 12 inches high, Now this lady always has her lawn nicely cut. She is in her 50s and lives alone.. Doesn't really socialize with any of the neighbors. Just goes to work comes home, puts the car in the garage and into the house. Your story had me hoping she wasn't dead. I waited around the time she comes home from work. Thank goodness she drove up. Just turned out she was waiting for the landscaper to call her and he was waiting for her to call him. The lawn is cut and I didn't have to find a body.

I guess your neighbor keeps her car in the garage?

As stated above, I wouldn’t wish finding a dead body on worst enemy. I knew in my heart that was something was wrong and Emily was incapacitated in someway, but I didn’t think she’d be dead and I didn’t think she’d be visible through the front window. However, I’m glad she was on the couch for one reason; had she passed in her bedroom or the bathroom, we wouldn’t have been able to see her. Amanda says that the first responders likely would have kicked the door in just based on the following…

    • Her car was parked out front
    • Her dog was in the condo
    • Both of us had recent text messages from Emily saying that she hadn’t been feeling well
    • Amanda hadn’t heard from Emily in two days
However, keeping all of the above in mind, I likely would have kicked in the door myself if she hadn’t been on the couch or otherwise visible; I’d brought a sledgehammer from home, knowing that Emily likely was in trouble and I might need to force my way into the place. I think it differs from state to state, but in some cases the police are not allowed to simply break down the door based on hearsay. Had Emily been in a part of the condo that wasn’t visible, I probably would have forced my way in before calling 911. The fact that her car was there and Hannah was in the condo, combined with the fact that she always responded to calls and text messages, would have been proof that she was in the condo somewhere; I think both of us would have been more traumatized if we’d gone into the condo and found her dead in bed or the bathroom, as opposed to seeing her through the window and thinking she was still alive.

I ultimately decided not to force my way into the condo because the 911 dispatcher told me that she had an officer just minutes away. There was a wall between Emily, and me and Amanda. Had we decided to make entry, regardless of where Emily was, we would have touched Emily in attempt to wake her; Amanda would have checked for vitals, and we would have discovered immediately that she was beyond help. This would have only succeeded in making the experience more traumatizing.

We believed Emily died that morning, and she had the A/C on, so she was in good condition (though according to EMS, she was in full rigor). We seriously thought she was unconscious, but alive, until the lights were turned on. I still believe that I’ve come to terms with the fact that I was standing outside my friend’s condo and screaming at her corpse.

Yep. She keeps the car in the garage and unless you see her coming home or going to work you never see her. She's not very social.

Replacing the left taillight is a bit more of a challenge than replacing the right one, because the backup camera is wired into it…
