I looked it up. The power steering system operate from 850 to 1200 psi fluid pressure. So they are obviously putting the filter on the return line.

mag filter is gonna work great for trannys.......but dont think its gonna do squat for a simple hydraulic pump

they dont really 'shed much metal'....

you'd be better investing in new hoses......since service life is only 6yrs
they shed/disintegrate from inside out....oil acidic fluid accelerates that

most of you out there are on borrowed time....

yeah these....differentials, brake fluid, and coolant get some to no love....

the cost of that old 'cutting' fluid can be catastrophic

real axle seals jobs start about $1200....or require all day and $300 worth of specialty tools

Diffs were first thing on my list. then new radiator/fluid. Then I had to do bushings bj's and rack. Then power steering pump. I hope I got the right fluid. Its valvoline synthetic DeX 3 compatible??

I just use the valvoline maxlife syn ATF
    have for years

    I suck out the reservoir.......about 12oz....and replace
so turns over maybe every 5 yr

I have the 5lug rwd.....oem dont make those racks anymore.....
so really have to take care of it...
so I dont end up with a pissy leaky aftermarket

Yea, that's wat I used. Couldn't think of the exact name. I guess I learned another lesson. I most likely could have saved a couple hundred bucks if I had cleaned the reservoir filter before I went n bought a new pump. Smdh

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
My reservoir screen was about 50% clogged and it took 5 or 6 rounds of brake parts cleaner spray from both sides to clear it out.

Well my old rack was leaking at the input shaft. Had a local shop install my new oem rack and it's been leaking in the same place since day one. I was hoping that maybe since the pump wasnt getting enough pressure in the system, that maybe the o-ring wouldn't seal. Well, we'll see. I drove it to work this morning but haven't thought to check it.

Yes sir they did. And this wasn't my first f up on my first Tacoma either. But from now on when I think I need to replace something, I'm gonna ask for advice here first. I've always done my own mechanic work. But cant get around em like I used to. So I'm not used to asking for advice lol. I lived and learned my lesson now I think.

The part that took me a while to realize is when you go to replace anything on these machines, you've gotta look at everything else that the part works in conjunction with.
Like yesterday for instance,.. I had my truck up on stands just kinda checking things out. Well I had it in neutral and released the clutch but held the brake. Well my rear wheels were turning. With full brake pedal. I use my e brake alot and it works really good. But I've been stopping with nothing but front brakes. So, either rear brake job, or more likely complete brake job. Including rotors and drums.

Check for oil in the rear brakes; the rear axle seals can leak. Check the load sensing proportioning valve (info can be found on this forum). Check the rear brake adjustment.

Rear brakes have always been an issue on these tacomas.

Another thing would be to bleed the proportioning valve. The service manual says to do it last. I kinda think that most brake shops won't bleed it at all. I'm not sure if a bunch of air in the valve would lead to the rear brakes not working.

Haven't seen any oil inside rear wheels but if it just started it may not have leaked enough to run that far. But sure, I'll check all that. I hope my lines aren't clogged. I bet that would be a pita.

Look for oil inside the brake drums. It would take a while for it to reach the wheels.

Come to think of it. If the lines are good it would be a good time to flush with new fluid.
