I have a 1987 Toyota pickup and the hood is stuck shut! Pulling the release lever from inside is not doing anything! It's either broken, explains why it won't release, or was already realeased.
Anyone have any experience or suggestions on the best way to tackle this?

Do you feel any resistance when you pull the release?

start using your eyes, look under the dash to see iff the cable is moving, any tension, look through the grill to verify any movement...
cable could be broke, stretched, latch could have shifted, lever could have broke, etc...
should be able to access the latch screws through the grill to get the latch off & hood open...

No resistance. Thinking cable could be broken, or possibly unmatched already.

Been doing that. Can partially see the latch and 1 bolt on it, can't see the other bolt. Can possibly remove 1 bolt from below the truck but not sure if that'll help, or worsen the issue.
Cannot see the cable at all yet. I have studied images of the latch to see where what I'm looking for and where it would be located. Openings in the grill are small, can't get much into it but a screwdriver. Opening between hood and grill is narrow as well, can get a screwdriver in it and a wrench. Have a bull bar that is hampering that a bit too.
Will keep messing with it to see what I can do. Someone mentioned taking the corner turn light out to possibly access the cable or area near it. Haven't tried yet.

have someone push down on the hood as you try & release, maybe not pulling hard enough or theres hood tension due to hood stops adjusted too tight.
You obviously im assuming tried pulling up after hood released?

Is this a new truck to you, do you know what the hood release is actually suppose to feel like...
some cars you have to pull really hard....

I've had the truck since new. I've opened this hood a lot, I'd say hundreds of times but it is a Toyota. I Know the feel of the hood release and it didn't feel the same or have the release sound. It just pulls without any resistance. Hood is fully latched. It has not released and I cannot reach the latch underneath the hood. I can't see the cable either.

Can you see or feel behind the release in the cab?
Best case is that it detached from the lever and you can lock some vice grips onto it to pull.

    DavesSR5 and slater like this.

I'll take a closer look at that, but from what I was seeing and feeling, it's still attached to the lever. Maybe I can attach vice grips behind the lever and give it a better tug.
