Oh there will be some mods all right
I definitely value your experience, and I see where you are coming from, but my counter argument is this: IP ratings for waterproofing. There are waterproof ratings from a quick splash, to direct pressured spray, all the way to submerged 30 ft deep. The highest waterproof ratings are the submerged ones so that would lead me to believe that water during a heavy rain and even water from a pressure washer is not the same as being dunked.

its also the shock from the temperature change - hot components quickly submerged into cold water. washing or in the rain or whatever, isnt an extreme change

I think Larry was referring to pearings truck. not tims.

bearings just go bad after a while. but certain things can speed that up.

I think mine went bad due to extreme old age. (166k miles)

Although I did tell the mechanic (who mostly works on Jeeps) that I was suprised they went bad when the Tacoma only had 166k on it. :)

I'm trying to figure out how me talking about bumper and winch weight made him think of RXT parts...

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
But the discussion started because Tim was told this morning he needed bearings.

Need a 35mm socket and impact or breaker bar-that will be 1/2" by the way. Napa has them. Haven't ruined my tie rods yet... always go better than you need so you don't get stranded in the woods. Like having two winches...

IP rating are for sealed (generally electronic) parts. Seals with axles turning in them is completely different. Water pressure in fresh water at a 30' depth is 14.18 psi, roughly air pressure at sea level. A pressure washer at the nozzle, is quite a bit higher than that...even at 10' away. Without trying to fine some engineering data to confirm, I'll venture a guess that rainwater at 55 mph would present more than 14 psi. I doubt the same would apply for slowly driving through 30" deep water.

I won't argue that Pat's 35s put considerably more strain through things than the 31s that come stock. Still, the engineering behind the stock parts probably has a 50-100% overload built into them for safety.
