I ordered one shipped from Carmax that was 1 year old with under 10k miles, only to find the roof had 20 or more major rock chips that had been poorly painted over and other paint scratches too. Nothing in the listing about it either. Looked like it was driving behind a gravel truck for a thousand miles. Of course the price didn't reflect the damage either.

Nope. That happens when insurance declares it a total loss and someone chooses to rebuild it.

A dented roof and leaky something may send it to a auction when a dealer doesn't want to mess with it, but that doesn't create a salvage title

Carmax is a joke. They more often than not, sell repaired wrecks. I wouldn't buy shit from them.

For $2,000 you would have been better off buying a plane ticket to see the truck. If you like it, buy it and drive home.

The only thing l can think that would leak on the roof would be the threaded holes for roof racks under the rubber trim, maybe the dent was close.

It's a great resource for cars that aren't common and hard to source locally. I have bought 2 vehicles from them--both mislabeled/priced as lesser trims and both arrived from many states away in almost great shape. Still have the Mini and use it as a commuter. It was labeled as an "S" with 7 out of 10 on the loaded scale. It arrived as a JCW with every option available. The thing has never had an issue in the 2 years I've had it--love it!!

If the roof was damaged, you sure as hell didn't want them fixing it for you. Never trust the people who damage your vehicle to fix it for you.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
How bad was the roof if it's still leaking after repair?
