Had a chance to do some testing this weekend, and you're correct. The shift points don't change when you select S mode, but it does prevent the engine from shifting about the number selected.

So simply moving the selector to S, then up to S8, does seem the easiest way to keep the ICE running while not otherwise affecting the truck's usual behavior.

Just got a hybrid. Can someone tell me if my brake pedal is supposed to vibrate when I’m breaking? Is this part of the regenerative breaking (kind of annoying). Also noticed it kind of downshifts a bit hard in the lower gears.

There is no brake driven regenerative breaking.
Regen in the truck is through the in line motor on the transmission. Your brakes are normal (but larger).

The only vibration you should be feeling is if your breaking hard and fast enough to trigger ABS, which will pulse the brake.

what speed do you feel this "vibration"? is the engine running or not when this happens? the hard downshift is that when your slowing down pretty fast ? and like below 20mph?

thanks. This is definitely not happening, there’s a very odd vibration I can feel through the brake at any pressure (more so a low speeds).

the hard down shift is below 20 mph. Good question, I’ll have to check if the engine is running when the vibration happens, it might be in EV at the time.

Just drove to work and does appear to be related to the EV system. About 1 second after I stop There is a vibration through the brake pedal. I can also feel it when in electric mode at times.

As someone that tows allot... I wish Toyota would promote the hybrid's bigger brakes and upgraded axle and diffs as a selling point. Plus, the initial instant pull off the line is near Ecoboost territory.

Is there a way to limit the white glaring background and (continue) at first startup of the LCD screen
    in the morning?
Rather annoyingly bright so is there a default setting to eliminate or change this to something else ?

18" Wheels question. I'm assuming you can still install 17" wheels on the hybrid. Can anyone confirm?

Yes you can. I’ve seen multiple owners switch from 18s to aftermarket 17’s.

Just note there is a recall or TSB on the trucks with 17" wheels, which Toyota will not keep you in the loop on if you go to 17's yourself.

I believe it was addressed on the 2025 models.

Hybrids have bigger/different rear brakes and are not affected by the recall. That may be because the brakes are different (and provide more clearance) or because all hybrids have 18" wheels. TRD Sports are not on the recall because they have 18" wheels. I am sure 17" wheels "fit" on the hybrids, just like they "fit" on the "small brake" Tacomas. Whether a "large brake" Tacoma with 17" wheels has adequate "clearance between the brake hoses and wheels such that, if mud and dirt build up on the interior of the wheels when operating under certain off-road conditions" is not so clear.

Do you know what the 4Runner has under it as far as brakes and axles? LC 250 must have the hybrid components like the Tacoma, I'd think 4Runner and GX although they are gas would share the same size diff, axles, and brakes GX obviously has the a V6 tt.

Oddly, the LC250 has the same (smaller) rear diff as the non-hybrid Tacoma. Perhaps because it is full-time 4WD full power will never go just to the rear end. The 4Rs will follow the Tacoma rear diff configurations with hybrids getting the larger rear diff.
