that actually looks pretty good. I cut my plastic pieces to fit INTO the gaps, but you could do it that way... might be easier actually. Just fill in w/ bondo and sand away

ok so the plastic pieces that get cut out and have to be put back in, WHY do they need to be put back in? can they be left out? That seems like it would make things a lot easier...

 

When you cut out the center part of the grill it leaves those holes. If you are looking to do a satoshi (deep dish) then it would look better if you cover those holes.

Further, has anyone put lights in the triangles? That could be kinda cool if it was done right and you color matched them to the running lights that they are right next to.

 

That's a good idea, I might try that with my leds.

i did the same thing Cape Codder did but with round perforated mesh, and flat black paint to match the factory hood scoop grill.

i guess it's not really the best photo but it's all i have.

 

i finally got mine done using this method even color matched my old chrome grill

 

can somebody tell what epoxy to use I can't find what he used ??? Please help

any 2-part plastic epoxy will do, it doesn't have to be the same brand i used. you should be able to find it at any auto parts / auto body supply store

Guys,

I've been gluing stuff together for a long time so I'll pass on some learned info.

I followed Cape Codder's procedures for the TOYOTA emblem with a few minor changes:
(1) I roughed up the back of each letters to insure the epoxy had a good grip on the emblem.
(2) I also filled each letter with epoxy, then used my belt sander lightly to ensure the back of the emblem was flat.

I have a Silver Mica taco so sprayed the emblem silver and installed.

Since I was using the 2011 style honey comb grille from timsxr the attachment process Cape Codder's used did not work for me.

Since the emblem is on piece, I tapped it to the grille, and traced the honey comb design on the black portion of the emblem between the letter and then cut the design.

I know that sounds labor intensive but the time invested was about 1 hour. Some very small diameter wire in three places held the emblem in place while clear RTV dried and process complete.

Did the emblem stay on? Been 4 wheeling the Colorado Rockies and it has not moved to date.

I was talking about the Epoxy for the plastic peases for the grill it's self not the emblem ... So maybe somebody understood me ... Will any Epoxy work just long it's for plastic
