that should fall under their insurance. if you have any costs into this like a deductible, it should absolutely be refunded.

In the end - you have a claim vs your insurance regarding the loss of your vehicle. Your insurance will sort the allocation of liability with the shop's insurance on their own. I would get nowhere near that discussion.

I'd argue that, as long as you get a fair amount of $$$, you will be better off. Such a corner impact will tweak stuff, and may cause on-going issues.

It sucks that this accident happened to you. Best of luck on your payout outcome.

Oh damn! I almost burned down my salvage rebuild a few years back, and my shop too :angrygirl:but I’m just a backyard hack. I would hope for better from a real shop! had a big old hole-burn in my passenger seat to live with for the life of the truck.

had an incident like that a few months ago at work.

beginning of the week at the morning safety meeting, the boss dressed us all down, "break/lunch times start and end when the bell rings. not 1 minute before or after!!!!!!' mostly in response to people finishing a task after the begin-break bell would ring, and then stay on break later to fulfill the length of time after the end-bell would ring that the task took.

so later on that thursday, the bell rings for a break, and the guy that was welding on a truck dropped his tools and walked away to take his break, per management orders. one of the harnesses caught a spark and started on fire. the boss happened to be walking through 5 minutes after the bell, and caught it and put it out before it spread beyond that one harness...

funny how that works. rules and consequences.

Well that damage amplifier on the front didn't help. Good luck with your truck.

I was curious about what you originally meant that the steering wheel airbag might have tried to go off but didn’t. It doesn’t really matter now, but was that the case?

Sorry for your loss OP, I only hope that shop has good insurance, because if not that’s going to be an uphill climb to get a fair reimbursement. Good luck!

You are owed by your insurance company for the accident damages less your deductible.

You are also owed by the shop's insurance company for the total loss of your truck in damaged condition. The value of your totaled truck in damaged condition is significantly less than the value of your undamaged truck, but that does not mean you are owed $0.

You have 2 separate claims and are owed money for both of them.

Also, with regard to the initial post there's no "airbag tried to go off but didn't." They either deploy or they don't. As Yoda said, "do or do not. There is no try." ;)

So in the end the OP gets two checks which total to FMV for the truck before the crash?
