Ok sounds good. I appreciate the help. I had a feeling I was going to do trimming and cmc. It seems like everyone has had different experiences lol. Some trim and cmc with no issues and others do lol. Either way I’m stoked about it. Now I just have to figure out what brand tires I want lol

 

Just make sure you take enough off the cab mount when you do the chop. Obviously, where the actual body mount is, you can only go that far back but outboard of the actual rubber mount try and go a little deeper and curve rhe plate. Hard to explain, but if you search some images of cmc jobs you’ll know what I’m talking about. Last thing you want is to end up like I did and have to go back and cut more after because it wasn’t enough the first time. Side note, I went with WP at4w, they’ve been good so far, for an E rated tire anyway.

 

What do you mean by "be ok?" are you talking functionally or aesthetically?

Thanks man. I know what you mean by cutting as much as possible. I’m going to throw the wheels and tires and go from there. As far as tires, I’m considering AT4W or Terra Grapplers for the tires.

 

Just had these at4w thrown on. LT. The ride is smooth and was rubbing on mudflaps with 1.25 inch spacers and Bilstein 5100 at 1.55 with 1/4inch strut mount spacers on top of each side. (Around 2 inch front lift maybe more) 1 inch block in the back. Stock UCA. Still need to have my OME UCA installed and will throw the stock mudflaps back on or throw some rokblok mudflaps if anything. Not close to the cab mount or the fender liner up front at all.

Switched from 265/70/17 (Motomaster eliminator AT: which in my opinion ran smaller than advertised)

 

Anybody running 8.5" wide wheels on a 255/80/17? Wondering if there's any issues airing down to ~15 PSI or not

 

For people with stock gearing and no tune what has been your experience driving on the highway (70+mph) with 255/80r17? I live in southern KY/Northern TN area and frequently drive go over mountains on the interstate.

 

It hasn’t been an issue for me. I drive about 65 highway miles 6 days a week. Gas mileage isn’t great (not that it was good before) but I also average about 80/85mph. Obviously it takes a little more time or throttle to get up to highway speed compared to stock tires but once you’re at cruising speed, I don’t notice much of difference vs the 265/70/17s I was running before.

 

Well that’s good to hear, not really concerned with mpg but more how it drives. Just worried about it gear hunting bad

 

Are these OEM 17x7” with +4mm offset?

 

I’m in need of new tires - looking at the Mickey Thompson 255/85/17 - slightly taller (34.1 I believe)

I have 285/70/17 now - hoping that less rolling resistance improves fuel mileage.

 

It'll drive like a 2nd gen (5-speed automatic)

 

Who needs a 6th gear anyway right

 

^With a tune, 6th becomes available above 85 mph

 

I usually don’t ever drive above 75mph. wonder if 6th gear will work around 70mph.

Guess i’ll find out when I get new tires in a couple of years, I like to plan my build to know what generally expect

 

A narrower tire does not necessarily have less rolling resistance. You need to consider other factors like rubber compound, tread pattern, amount of rubber, etc.

For example, my LT255/85r16 e-load mud terrains have measurably more rolling resistance than my P265/70r16 SL all terrains (1-2 mpg) . The mud terrains are super beefy compared to the supple all terrains. More rubber means more friction thus less efficiency.

 

Do it, I love my Baja Boss no loss I gas mileage compared to the 285’s I had on

That's the nice thing about 33" pizza cutters. Less wear and tear on components, hence less gear hunting.And noooo cutting!!!!! And great ground clearance to boot! Any upsized tire is going to change your mpg, that's a given. So will a lift.
