Amanda and I went to the annual car show at Pennhurst Asylum yesterday (Sunday, June 8th). It was nowhere near as big as it was in 2024, and thus not as fun, but this was largely due to the credible threat of rain. We toured the Mayflower building last year, and that was closed yesterday due to understaffing. This year, we did a "ghost hunt" in the Quaker building, which housed some of the most violent patients. It was 45 minutes instead of the unlimited time we had last year (we probably spent at least an hour and a half in the Mayflower building), but $10 cheaper per ticket, and the Quaker building was also much smaller than the Mayflower building (and thus we actually saw the whole area of the building open to the public in the allotted time). For the second time in a year, here are the customary pictures of my beloved truck parked at one of the most infamous mental hospitals in the country, with a complete 1987 Lennox HVAC system and some ceiling fans wedged into the bed (not the most random picture my truck has ever been the subject of)...

 

I LOVE Marshmallow Peeps, perhaps a little too much. Not even 24 hours after Amanda and I found Emily, we went to Walmart to get food for Emily's dog Hannah, and since it was not long after Easter they had Peeps for 75% off. Had Emily not died, I likely would have bought some...

However, my friend was literally in cold storage awaiting an autopsy at that very moment (while I was shopping at Walmart, very much alive), and her poor diet most definitely contributed to her tragically early demise. We had some candy when Amanda and I went to see the new Lilo & Stitch movie, but Amanda and I have largely avoided junkfood since we found Emily.

Can you get a second opinion just to be absolutely certain you need surgery? I hate surgery with a passion and would avoid it unless it's absolutely necessary.

 

The weird noises my knee is making, and the MRI images, seem to be pretty decent proof that this needs to be dealt with. It's not like I'm uninsured...

 

As long as you are good with it. Once they start cutting on you, you will never be the same.

 

It's arthroscopic as opposed to tradition. Procedure takes less than an hour and is minimally invasive. My truck was never the same after the frame replacement...

 

Heading into the Quaker building for the ghost hunt! Those two women are employees...

 

It ranges from dimly lit to pitch black in parts of the asylum with no natural light. The basement of Quaker Hall was the darkest space I’ve ever seen! The lens I have for my Nikon SLR is not designed for the dark, and even struggles to function in dim areas; I do not find myself in need of a specialized lens that often, and thus do not see the need to drop hundreds of dollars on a second lens. As such, I was forced to use my phone to take a lot of the pictures, and all of the basement pics in the basement were taken with my phone. The basement has flooded many times, and here we see the rusted out skeleton of a wheelchair leaning against a refrigerator that’s probably at least 70 years old…

 

Pretty sure some bad shit went down in this basement…

 

Take it for sure, you ain't getting a surgery appt that fast anywhere. Cupcake's tendon surgery didn't even come that fast. Plus I bet that early August might not happen anyway.

This will be a piece of cake, my brother in law had a few of those.

Not a bad one, I prefer Slow and Easy myself..

Just means you got a lot of room for better times.

Good on ya man. I cut over 100 pounds a while ago..and it was for that reason among others, less work on the joints.

I mean you "could" get a second opinion of course but I'd roll with what you have.
