It's less Tacoma and more mod
Not sure, but I see trucks with that company on it around here sometimes and they have some business front location. They're one of those companies that comes in and mitigates damage after a disaster or something. My guess is some sort of commercial ozone generator or maybe a dehumidifier.

Just under 40 days since we found out Emily, and I think that for both of us, the initial shock has worn off. However, the moment the lights were turned on while I was looking through the living room window still replays vividly in my mind.

Looking back on that night, I knew in the very bottom of my heart that Emily was likely dead. If she wasn’t dead, then she was very close to it; Amanda and I both knew Emily very well. We cut off ties with her for roughly a year, beginning in October 2023, only engaging with her occasionally from the summer onward. We first visited the condo, where she ended up passing away, in the fall of 2024; Amanda stayed at that condo in for a few days in December 2024 to watch Hannah, while Emily visiting family in Florida, in exchange for forty bucks and use of her car. This was right after I got trespassed from the nursing home where Amanda and I used to work, and Amanda needed her own vehicle.

Sorry for that tangent, but what I’m trying to say is that Emily had issues and was rather lonely. If either of us texted us, she would respond right away. When I tried to call Emily a second time while we were on route to the condo on that awful night, Amanda kept saying there was no point, but I snapped back saying “maybe she’s on the shitter!” Amanda later said that Emily always had her phone with her, even in the bathroom.

So, we knew there was a very high likelihood that this was a legit emergency, but I don’t think either of us expected to literally look through the front window and see her. I say once again that Emily gone for less than a day and was not showing signs of decomposition. The fact that all the lights were out added to the illusion that she was merely asleep or possibly unconscious. Looking back on, I knew once the lights came on that she was dead. It’s difficult to accurately describe, but her skin was pale while at the same time having a yellow hue to it. The way her right leg hung off the bed also seemed unnatural.

So, let’s say she died while sleeping in her bed or somewhere else that wasn’t immediately visible by looking through that window. The fact that her car was there, and Hannah was inside, were both clues that she was there. However, Emily would likely be on the couch watching TV at about 8:30-8:45PM.

If she wasn’t visible, I would have gone around to the side of the building where the central A/C unit is located. The A/C is located just outside the guest bedroom window, and Emily’s bedroom window is a few feet to the right. The last time I was there, I happened to take a look at the A/C unit, and I remember that I could see into her room through partially opened blinds. It is very likely that I would have been able to see her lying in bed, even with all the lights out, and more than likely something similar to what took place at the living room window would have taken place at the bedroom window. Chances are that I would have still called the cops immediately and not forced my way in.

If Emily’s car was there, and she was not visible from the outside, then I would have kicked in the front door. I am glad that I did not do this, because regardless of where she died, actually coming into contact with her body would have been far more traumatic than seeing her through the window…

So, regardless of where her body, here’s what likely would have happened…

Both of us would have immediately attempted to wake her up, which would have required touching her. I was briefly inside the foyer of the condo and didn’t smell anything, and the cop said there was no smell of decomp because it hadn’t been that long. However, one of us would have undoubtedly turned on the lights in whatever room she was in, and we both would have seen her skin color.

As stated above, both of us would have undoubtedly attempted to shake her awake; Emily was not only dead, but in full rigor mortis; Amanda recently renewed her CPR certification for work, and no doubt would have checked for a pulse, but also possibly would have attempted to resuscitate Emily.

From what I could tell before the blinds were closed, they likely knew immediately that she was dead and didn’t do anything beyond the 12-lead EKG just to confirm that she had in fact passed away; Amanda used to work in nursing homes before we dated and had found residents dead before. Because of this, she knew immediately that Emily was dead when the lights came on. When the cop attempted to move Emily’s head while assisting EMS, it rolled lifelessly to one side and this fully confirmed for Amanda that her friend was dead.

As I’ve said before, Emily likely died somewhere between 12 to 20 hours before we found her, and she had the A/C on. While the A/C hastened rigor mortis, it also preserved her body somewhat. We found her at like 8:37PM, and the cop was unaware of the most recent text she’d said to her ex at 9:59PM the previous night, telling us she’d been gone for at least a day and possibly longer.

Amanda and I believe that she was actively dying when she texted her ex literally just before 10PM, but that she managed to survive the night in her bed before coming out the couch where she died. She has phone chargers in her bedroom, and the living room, and her phone was connected to the one in her bedroom in spite of the fact that she was on the living room couch. She was possibly disoriented or just feeling really shitty when laid down on the couch, the the fact that her eyes were closed tells us that she passed in her sleep.

Had her car not been there, it would have been a bit weird but not necessarily a sign that something bad had happened. Regardless of whether or not Hannah was there, we probably would have gone home and come back the next day if her car was gone. If her car still wasn’t back, we would have called the police and made a missing person report with a description of her car, or possibly even called them to the condo to get Hannah out if she was there.

One evening in January 2024, our old teacher’s son left for his girlfriend’s house and never showed up. My teacher called the police, and her son’s body was found by police in the mangled wreck of his Nissan Altima three days after he was reported missing. He broke his neck in the accident and was killed instantly. Because it was really cold, his body was very well preserved and they were able to have an open casket. He was only 21 years old.

Considering how bad the weather was on the night we found Emily, a bad accident certainly would not have been out of the question if her car wasn’t there.

I scored a free, brand new in the box dashcam from a friend after helping clear out his warehouse (he also lets me cut up HVAC equipment on his property), and I finally got around to putting it in Amanda’s car on June 1st; I just kept forgetting to post the pics until now…

    :facepalm::anonymous:

Anyway, it’s a cheap Chinese generic-branded unit, but it was free and so far it seems to work fine!
