I recently purchased a '25 TRD OR non-hybrid and have since really developed an appreciation for the way the hybrid TRD OR trucks look with the 18" wheels. I'm a "stock +" type of guy and have been studying 18" wheels(OEM) and tires.

I'm not wanting to loose much(if any) mpg or power so I'm only considering light weight tires.

    1. Please share your experience with swapping to 32.6"" tires and how it affected the driving experience.... if any.
    2. Please share your mpg loses if you went from stock 31.6" tires to 32.6" tires.

Below are the tires I'm considering. I'm not limited to any of these but I'm only considering tires that are a max of 45lbs to minimize affects of power and mpg lose.

    I'm considering these 265/70r18 tires:
    Toyo Open Country AT3 @ 44lbs
    Nitto Ridge Grappler @ 45lbs
    Cooper Road & Trail A/T @ 42lbs
    Hancook Dynapro AT2 Xtrm @ 41lbs

I'm considering these true 32" tires in 275/65r18 SL:
    Maxxis Razr @ 41lbs ea
    Toyo AT3 @ 42lbs ea
Nitto Ridge Grappler @ 45lbs ea

Its worth noting that I am considering keeping my current 17" wheels and putting on either:
Maxxis Razr AT 285/70r17 @ 43lbs ea (considered to be a little small)
    Maxxis Razr AT 265/70r17 @ 39lbs ea

I went to Falken AT4W 285/70r17 SL rated tires a couple weeks after buying my truck.

    Here are my observations:
    1. I didn't notice any loss of power and the truck didn't feel any slower after the tires. The 8-speed transmission and low end torque really help here.
    2. They ride a little more stiff than the OEM tires. They're SL rated but they are not as soft/smooth as the factory tires. It's not drastic, but I noticed it.
    3. Fuel economy: hard to say. I haven't noticed a large change in fuel economy but I'm sure there must have been some minor loss.

I appreciate the response. I really wanted the AT4W to be a contender because I think they are a great tire and I love the way they look but they are a little heavier than some other options. Thanks for sharing your experience and for discussing the comfort side of things.

I went AT4 after 2000 miles and lost about 1.5mpg, but not much noticeable power. I’m sure a lighter tire would do better

Great thread/question in my opinion. Been in this rabbit hole myself and can share some experience.

I have three setups because I drive a ton for work in different states and climates etc. Have Continental snow tires on the factory wheels.

When I run my 18x9 with 275/70 Continental TerrainContacts I notice a reduction in mileage of about 1.5-2 however these are load range E so at higher pressure on the highway I get better mileage than stock. Total combined weight is 12 lbs heavier than stock 17" combo.
The trade off is any real bumpiness to the road and I can feel the factory bilsteins getting overwhelmed.
Dropping down to 45psi is just about perfect mix: fantastic cornering-much better than stock, feels incredible in terms of ride, great grip on dirt roads and gravel and mileage drops just a little compared to stock. Takes impacts well and doesn't seem to overwhelm factory suspension.

This drivetrain with a manual really seems to respond well to the extra rotational mass. Feels 'happy' and doesn't feel slower. I've since gotten the OTT tune and about to remount the Continentals and see how that combo works post-tune.

Right now I've gotten about a 1000 miles on SCS F5's and 275/70r17 Open country RT Trails and they feel extremely similar to factory with the total weight being just under stock combined weight but more of that weight farther from the hub.

Super curious how the Maxxis perform!! Was very close to going that direction but the Toyo RT Trails got me due to being 42lbs and slightly taller than stock

they have a 275/65r18 which is also 42lbs...

For my '25 Hybrid, i originally swapped out the OEM H/T tires for Nitto Terra Grappler G3s in 265/70/18 SL (45lbs) I noticed maybe 1/2 to 1 mpg drop from the horrid OEM H/T tires. Not a bad compromise IMO.

What do you think of the Nitto G3s? They’re on my short list of tires along with Open Country AT3 in 265/70-18 and/or 275/70-18.

Looks like I need to consider the Toyo RT Trail and the Nitto G3. Both look like nice choices.

The G3s were great! On par with the BFG Trail Terrains I had a while back on my last truck. Very quiet, and rode very well.

I'd Look into Continental TerrainContact AT's also if you don't need the extreme look. Similar to the Michelin defender concept but much sharper athletic feel from what I've heard and I can confirm the HT's are badass if not too high of load range for my uses.

If I can sell my E range TerrainContact HT's I think the absolute best tire for my mixed use case in 18" diameter is the TContact AT - 275/65r18 is also only 42 lbs and the way these HT's handle and grip asphalt is really insane. Snow is great as is dirt and rocks with some mud.

If anyone has experience with the AT's in SL would love to hear

I've read that the wheel and tire together are 65-66 lbs which means:

265/70r17 BFG Trail Terrains are 37lbs
ORD OR wheels weigh about 28-29lbs

The Continental TContact AT does look like a nice option too.

Hey @rybern, I had a set of Nitto Terra Grappler G3 tires installed today in 275/70 r18. They’re an SL load tire, weigh 45-46lbs and measure out to about 33.2”. So far the ride is excellent with great highway manners and a surprisingly quiet ride. I’m running the Tundra TRD Pro BBS wheels, which are slightly more aggressive than the stickers at +47mm offset. They come right out to the edge of the wheel well.

    Anyway, just another data point.
