Tailgate thieves

Be aware of your surroundings, thieves out there trying to come up. My dad has a Tacoma, went to the gym no issues. Only realized his tailgate was missing when he got home.

I immediately thought of socal…every time im on marketplace i get so many tailgate listings pushed to me

 

Yea apparently this is a common thing now. I heard about it but you never believe it until you see it personally.

 

I’m in LA, and have to park on the st…I have cat protectors….tail gate lock x 2….hate these guys

 

If it’s not cats it’s something else.

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps there is a way that legislators can require some kind of seller proof of legit source like what they've done for cat converters before they can sell a tailgate.

It's not an issue where I am but because of these posts, I also always lock the tailgate coupled with a security device.

 

Definitely something he is going to have to look into in the future. Filing a police report now, we’ll see what insurance has to say as well

 

Got no use for thieves.
Given the R.O.I. and time and risk these clowns could be better off with a real job.
Just doesn't make sense.

Not too common around South Mountain ( phoenix ) but I got a few of those Apple Air Tags.
I think I'll slip one in to mine.

 

why even steal a tailgate? There can't be that many buyers, right?

oem power tail gate lock
sabellco tail gate lock
bakflip x4s tonneau

Seems to have worked so far.

 

Wonder what the rough scrap value is, perhaps that's another way they make money..

The buyers would be those whose tailgates were stolen.

Hmmm... it might be a good idea to remove the plastic inside panel and then etch/engrave your name on the inside. So, when a buyer happens to come across a tailgate like his, he could remove the inside panel first to see if it is his.

 

At least he has a good sense of humor about it.
