What size cup are you using?

You are using a gas lense as well, correct?

Where did you find that exhaust tip? I have a friend looking for something like this.

yep, gas lense. i believe its a #12 cup, which isnt huge, but should be plenty big. pretty sure it's my filler that's too large. im having to put way too much heat into it to get the filler to melt and/or having to slow down with lower amps, which nets the same total heat.

probably ran into the same thing your friend is. really tried to find a small business that was turning out some cool stuff, or at least a bigger reputable brand, but all i could find with this style was Chinese....

seems to be made well though. even the rivets that hold the carbon on are stainless. it comes with a t-bolt clamp which is a step up from glorified set screws that dig into your tailpipe. still cutting that end off though and welding on a v-band flange. i did scuff up the carbon and put a nice clear coat on it to help keep the epoxy stable in the sun.

Almost there. Going to be a shame to wrap most of this with heat shielding.

    3/32

Its thicker than the wall of the tubing. :anonymous:

Heading to the welding shop later today to swap some empty bottles, so I'll pick up some thinner filler.

Yuuuup. Fighting that for sure. You're almost finished though, so that's good.

I typically use .045 for 16 gauge tubing.

    I just grabbed some 1/16 (0.0625)

Considered using some stainless safety wire i have for a minute, but I dont know what alloy it is or if it has a coating on it.

This was a tedious one. Lesson learned: as beneficial as it was to prioritize suspension geometry and design, considering the implications on the exhaust routing at the same time would have been a good idea...

19 direction changes. 20 if you count the one on the muffler coming right off the y-pipe collector that's already on the truck. Breaks down into 4 individual sections plus the exhaust tip to aid in snaking it through the cage for an easier install and removal.

Now it's time to heat wrap it.

Is it just my eyes playing tricks, or did you miss a spot right here?

Otherwise, you wrapped that project up quite nicely. Having those v-bands was a smart choice for sure.

I did that a couple times where I needed just a few degrees of change. Instead setting up the bandsaw for a 3 degree cut, trying to clock the cut section correctly, and then making two full circle welds, just make a 90% cut with a cutoff wheel. Pull the 1/8" gap closed, and boom, same 3 degree change as a pie cut with less than half the weld distance/heat input. I'm sure there's a drawback to this in high performance applications, but I can't imagine i'll see any ill affects at the tail end of a 12 foot long exhaust system putting a whopping 150 HP to the wheels :anonymous:
