Cruise Control not activating

The cruise light on the dash turns on with no problem. I've replaced the rubber clutch pad as well as the brake pad…

What’s my next step?

Could be your clutch pedal return spring. Try lifting up on the clutch pedal with your toe while you drive and see if it will activate. If so it’s your return spring. It's a goofy coil spring setup. The plastic bushings on it wear out, and then the slot in the clutch pedal that it rides in wears deeper. Most people just pop the coil spring out and replace it with a linear spring. The points to connect it to are already there because the 4-cylinder models use a linear spring. A brake pedal return spring, or a clutch pedal return spring from a 4-cylinder will work. I’ve worked on that spring and all is well. Still no activation of cruise control.

 

Only pressing more on this because the pedal return is 95% of cruise control issues, you're sure that the clutch pedal is fully returning to the top? And if you put your foot behind the clutch pedal and pull it up towards the drivers seat after shifting, there is zero movement?

 

Hundred percent positive. We’ve already added that Spring and there is zero play in the clutch at the top.

 

It could be the switch that the pedal activates when it’s all the way up. Could also be the switch on the brake pedal.

 

Are you referring to the rubber pads? I've already replaced those... is there more to it than that?

 

Yes, the switch the rubber pad contacts.

 

I seem to have no problem with the brakes or light system so I've ordered the clutch switch.

The clutch has two switches, one at the top that deactivates the cruise control and one at the bottom that allows you to start the truck. I don’t know if they are the same, make sure you get the right one.

 

They are different parts:
84520-24010 Clutch start switch
88280-14030 Cruise control clutch switch

 

UPDATE - Still no cruise control.
I just replaced the Clutch switch.
The Cruise light comes on, it just doesn't take over control of the speed.
No other system is acting weird.
The brake lights work perfectly so I'm hesitant to order a brake switch since the lights indicate it's working properly.
Rubber contact pads are brand new and all are fully pushing the button in.

Any ideas where to look next?

 

Did you already connect your odb code reader? Any codes present?

 

I have no odb code reader. Do you have one you recommend? Where does it get connected to?

 

Forgot where I got mine was a gift I'll send pictures tomorrow. It reads and clears them.

Port is under plastic dash, below hood release handle left side of steering wheel.

Actron OBD2 Port Scanner, Model CP9175.

 

Just to be sure, this is an automatic or manual transmission truck? Your signature says prerunner which were all automatics.

I would open up the hood and ensure that the cruise control cable connected to the throttle body is attached correctly/not stretched. Check out this thread…

That’s definitely not the problem. We’ve already put in a new spring so the clutch hits all the way up every time.

 

I’d venture something going on with the cable. There’s only so much to this system and you are seeing the cruise light activate.
