Transmission oil cooler

I have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Offroad. Would like to install a aux. electric fan for the transmission cooler. Would that possibly void the factory warranty?

 

A lot depends on dealer discretion. They could claim anything related to that wiring, or maybe even extend it the transmission, that it was the fault of your work.

They can't deny other systems not related to your work.

But.

Why do you think you need it? Are you monitoring temps with a scan tool and finding them too high?

Overloaded towing?

 

You don't have a transmission cooler per se. Toyota stopped adding the external OEM trans cooler mid 2020 model year. Your transmission fluid is routed through the radiator just like the engine coolant is.

You would need to add an external auxiliary cooler either inline with or separate from the radiator and then add a fan.

Pinning the trans thermostat is the easiest way to cool things off a little. The thermostat doesn't open until 195f which seems a bit high to me.

 

Mine has the towing package and has a transmission oil cooler also.

 

You are misinformed. Open your hood and take a picture looking down in front of the radiator. There would be a small (~5"x9") cooler just below the horns on the driver side, but it's missing on your truck.

Hayden 679 run inline on the passenger side. If you're seeing a very small cooler in there that's for the power steering.

To your original question: none of us can conclusively say one way or another on warranty. But I wouldn't do it.

To @Clearwater Bill 's point, why do you think you need one?

 

Why on Earth would adding an electric fan void the warranty? My truck is heavily modified and just got my timing cover gasket leak repaired under warranty @55k.

Speaking personally I have watched my temps on a scanguage for years and they've always been high when highway driving, towing, or offroading.

First I pinned the thermostat and got very little change, then added an OEM cooler with similarly little change, then added the

Hayden 679 which finally made the difference.

Now I'm cruising on the highway in 95f temps with trans pan temps @185 instead of 220+, and running 165-175 around town.

 

Because the vast majority of people aren't capable of doing decent electrical work. It would be easy for Toyota to deny a claim if a future electrical issue pops up

Also OP doesn't have an aux trans cooler.. So I kind of assumed he would add one before he adds the e-fan. Otherwise why add a fan

 

Fair enough. I've got a ton of electrical mods but I set up an aux panel completely separate from the OEM electrical system.

And yeah hopefully OP comes around and recognizes that he's got a PS cooler and no aux trans cooler lol.
