Have you replaced the carb? If you have, it could be the linkage binding.

If you haven't, it's probably the linkage binding


I replaced the one on my MS170 3 times and the first time I had the linkage all jacked up but finally got it fixed. I got tired of replacing the carb and it not running right so I traded it for another saw at a pawn shop

 

I never use that chain brake either.

 

Isnt a kickbback lock? I dunno...when it kicks is only time i use it

Thanks. My problem is clicking up from full choke to half choke, it doesn't want to click. Instead it binds up then jumps to the normal "run" position. I will tear into it over the weekend. I need to learn how to sharpen the chain as well. Time to see if the Tractor Supply "field sharpening" kit was worth $12.

I got one. I don't know, it's something about sharpening. Like knives, I'm pretty good at sharpening but not as good as I'd like to be. Same thing with chain saw chains. My sharpened chains are a definite improvement over what I started with, but not top notch. I give my brother a knife or chain and I get it back looking like it's been done by a professional service.

 

What's a Chain Brake???

 

Describes my method pretty much exactly. Choke on, throttle wide open, pull till it hits, choke off, another pull or two and we're go. No chain brake on the saw. Plus I never, ever, touch the primer bulb on a Stihl 2-stroke. Unless I feel a strange compulsion for taking the spark plug out and drying it. Which I never do.

Got home yesterday evening and started mowing up and down the state road wife ,dog, other neighbors walk. This is because of snakes, their ability to see them. Almost got done when the rain started along with some thunder. Pulled up next to the neighbors under a tree

Anyways he was telling me about his CC with the 72" deck. He noticed that he had a hydraulic leak and power steering loss. Checking with CC he needs a new tranny $5000.00. Lucky S.O.A.G. had 8 days left on the warranty when he got it checked out. New tranny on its way.
Apparently there were 3 tranny's used on this model and he had the worst one, but their putting in the best reliable one

Yep, water is in the bottom of the Pyrex glass.

 

Picked up this non running unit for cheap. Engine parts were in a basket.

Found a bad valve guide that was pushed up. Straightened the push rods, pushed the valve guide to its correct position and reassembled.

Spent $50 to find out that I better swap out engines. 4000 hors on a Kawasaki 721 is a lot of hours!

I was able to run the thing enough to verify the hydrose are solid. The chassis feels very solid for that many hours. This unit has the digital hour meter, so it was nice to know someone didn't swap meters.

After some thinking, I'm gonna do an engine swap.

 

Running the engine I was having issues with the RPMs ramping up even tho the engine was at idle speed. I'm assuming the ball bearing retainer ring for the governor has deteriorated. The unit starts amazingly, so it will be a great rebuilder for someone else. I can't sell this unit with a questionable engine. Out it comes and in goes a low hour RATO.

This mower came with a vacuum/bagger system. I opted for a little more HP. The vacuum does pull quite a bit of parasitic draw.

 

I'll bet the snakes will appreciate being able to see them coming. Although I'm not sure what the snakes are going to do with your wife once they get a hold of her.
