Not yet. I've been on the hunt for a tank mounting in the spare tire space.

GX550 is 21.0 and lower trim Tundras have 22.5gal tanks.

I'm getting about 10-15 miles less per tank than my 2g PreRunner. That's with 2.9 less gallons, 4wd vs 2wd, 33s vs 31s, plus a lot more options. I don't think the 3g range was much better than the 2g and not many spent the $2,500 for the Long Range America tank.

2/3g Tacomas didn't have an oem option, but now with TNGAF I think we could get a low priced salvage yard option. Just waiting for someone to go first.

That's the $2,500 tank ($2,445) that I mentioned. A new oem Tundra tank is considerably less and available in 22.5gal and 33gal sizes. Could probably pick up a used one for a couple hundred ... just not sure if it fits.

I'm getting about 350 a tank, refilling within a few miles of when the light comes on. If I got a 33 gal tank, my range would be over 600 miles. I'd just be driving around with a lot of extra weight. On the highway, my other tank (my bladder) isn't going to last that long so I'd be pulling over long before that.

I know, if you're towing or off-roading your mpg and range will be way less and 33gal may make sense. An extra 4+ gallons though, from a Tundra tank for $733 (if it fits), I'd probably do that.

I frequently adventure where fuel is far between stations. I don't like suffering with gas anxiety. My 4Runner has a 15 gallon tank, a 15 gallon auxiliary tank (spare tire tank), and 5 gallons on the bumper. Not only do I not worry about fuel, I can drive past more expensive gas when I want. Bottom line, my 4Runner has me spoiled.

Having to constantly stop for fuel in the Tacoma is annoying. With my camper I'm getting 15-16mph. The 18 gallon tank is inadequate.

    Brand new. Coming soon.
OEM Tacoma tank feels like you are refueling constantly.

If I have to stop and pour gas in the tank, I'll stop and pump fuel in the tank.

My 2014 F150 has a 36 gallon tank. I've gotten used to it and won't go back. I'd love to buy a new Tacoma but not with the limited fuel capacity and it's just not economically feasible to add a bigger tank. We travel and I pull a small travel trailer. Tacoma will do what I want to do but I'm not willing to stop every 150 miles while towing. I hope to buy a new truck some time this year and it will probably be another Ford.

Thanks Ford guy. When your Ford needs the engine rebuilt, gets Lemon Law’d, or dies from perforating rust these Tacomas will still be on the road going strong.

What ever happened to it? Will it ever go into production?

There was a consensus that the cost involved for a larger 3rd gen fuel tank wasn't worth it. Many stated they would opt for rotopax or other fuel containers. I wouldn't use or recommend a Tacoma for long range towing.

I've driven a new F150 with the 5.0. The 10 speed transmission was clunking really bad and couldn't decide what gear to be in. I side with Toyota for reliability.

Probably don’t want to bring up rust as an upside to a Toyota…

Maybe that was a valid point in 1980. Fords were just as bad.

Now? Please. I’ve yet to own a Toyota of any variety built after 2005 that had rust issues.
