Plenty of supercharged 3rd gens out there not having broken pistons.

lots of variables, your tune could have been shit, has your fuel curves been checked, etc...
yours from the vertical cylinder wall scoring was getting beat-up....
could have been detonating due to fuel, or sparkplug gap / indexing, etc....
just cuz you didnt hear it, doesnt mean it wasnt pinging....

So, a shop removed the heads prior to me removing the engine. Less than 10 miles since they sent them to a machine shop supposedly. Replaced the intake valves with factory and machined new exhaust valves. These don't look too good but idk. Maybe the best thing is to send it to a machine shop to inspect. Would it be fine to just get new intake and exhaust valves and replace them and move on?

I did this for a living, way too much work to play games at this point. I would be calling the shop that pull your heads and demanding to know the name of the machine shop reach out to the machine shop to verify if they even worked on it, bring them your heads and see what they suggest.
You’re only blessing is the loose piston ring land piece was still and it’s proper position and didn’t go bouncing around throughout the engine.
Way too much work to be trying to save a dollar at this point.
Need to be 100% certain those heads are on the up and up and you didn’t get some sort of bullshit story…

do what the machine shop suggests, don’t go in there demanding what you want, if they recommend that they need to be surfaced, have them surfaced…
They may inspect them and say we never touched these valves.
Also do your own DD and verify that this particular machine shop is reputable and does good work..

If they do good work, they could rebuild your entire entire engine and a reasonable rate, and could be better than any reman.
Have them rebuild and assemble the long block, so there’s recourse if things go south.
Versus they give you rebuilt heads and a short box and you assemble it. If things go bad afterwards, they will point the finger at you.

If they rebuild your engine, it might be a source for forged Or stronger pistons of some sort,
As stated outcome would be better than just some reman.
I don’t do Toyota work, I’m just generally speaking from 32 years of engine work for Ford.
    Seen a lot of shit…

Forced induction engines usually have wider ring gaps to accommodate the higher heat. (Rings expand due to heat) To me it looks like that one ring expanded due to heat and broke. Took the piston ringland with it because it had no where else to go. Glad you found it. Laughingly I would get a new tune and throw a new ring in it and then send it.

That's actually the piston broken not the ring. Both rings looks good. It's a small section of the piston between the rings that broke. Very odd.

Interesting, then the ring expanded enough to close the gap and then pushed on the ringland and snapped it. Kinda surprised the ring is intact. As for the scoring I know old school guys if it doesn't catch a fingernail they run the block. Hard to tell from the pictures so that's a in person evaluation.

Depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend. New piston and ring set?

I'm thinking new piston and ring set. Cheapest option. It's definitely smooth. Can't feel any marks with my fingers. Wonder if there's a forged piston set out there somewhere that will work for me.

If there is you will spend an ass load. How do the rod bearings look? Weren't you getting a lot of misfires?

Rod bearings looks good, everything looks good honestly. I was getting misfires on cyl 4 however that was because an exhaust rocker fell off probably from over revving it.

You do what you want, your money, your time, you need to be the one that needs ti sleep at night....
I can see severe vertical scoring marks on your cylinder walls regardless of your picture angles...
Youre not showing any pics of the remaining piston skirts....
Theres no crosshatch on your cylinder walls....
    Some are really bad..........
tossing 1 piston at it & some rings isnt the right answer, but go ahead....
You need a machine shop & proper rebuild, measuring, fitting, etc...

Couldn't he just run over to harbor freight and throw a ball hone down it for a few passes if the lack of cross hatching bothers him?

Seems to me like this would be normal. You have Metal sliding on metal. I'd imagine these marks are extremely normal. I cleaned each cylinder and ran my fingernail around each one. Nothing snagged, not even a little.

That’s what happened to my last engine. Bad fuel pump ran it lean while pushing hard on highway at 10k above sea level. Fuel pump died before the engine finally gave up the ghost (kept driving it for a few hundred miles before engine locked up). I’d get a new fuel pump if your pump is still stock and supercharged. I also had an aftermarket tank that sloshed the fuel, solved it with a hydramat attachment to the fuel pump. Hope this helps.

    I've seen
I've seen damage like that on reman engines where the top of the cylinder wasn't reamed out properly after some wear and new rings installed. But it could also be a bad casting or a dropped piston before install.

Considering there was some bolts not screwed all the way in on the underside of the oil pan..probably built on a friday at the Toyota plant.
