The 4th Gen Tacoma is by far the Best

I have owned all the first 3 generations. Every new truck is always better and faster, that's just reality. However, I think the reliability of the 3rd gen is by far the best. I doubt the 4th Gems will get to 400K with that engine setup. There are many 3rd gens up there showing how they age and how well they continue to do. I'll probably be a sucker one day and get a 4th gen too.

I’ve never in my entire life ever owned a car past 300k miles and I’ve been driving for 35 years. I’ll be happy with a car that last 100k +/- so it’s a non issue for me and probably vast majority of people who switch out to a new truck or car every 3 to 5 years.

Size matters when the overall length and width of the Tacoma is less than a Highlander it's going to take up less space and be easier to park.20250525_200134.jpg

1-2&3 G is also more maneuverable with a greater lock to lock turning ratio than the 4G was designed to do. 4G is going to accelerate better than any previous generation Tacoma.

I think it all depends on why you buy a Toyota truck. There are plenty of other trucks on the market that make more power and are just as easy to park as a 4G.

I prefer the power delivery from a ecoboost v6tt 2.7 or 3.5 F-150 over the power delivery from a 7.3 V8 F-450. Those are completely different trucks to drive. 6.7 powerstroke in a F-250 that could be a different story.

I've owned a 1G, 3G and now a 4G and have loved them all. The 2G and 3G were strong as bulls. I'm loving the 4G but the jury is still out for me as to whether it's better than the others. I need to own it longer to make that decision.

Like all bigger vehicles once you get used to the size driving, parking, maneuvering becomes easy and second nature. I switch from my Tacoma to my wife’s Subaru all the time and driving a smaller vehicle is easier but once I get back into my taco again it’s fine.

I think I can handle a 4G. That doesn't make it more maneuverable than a regular cab 6 lug Tacoma. The overall size is that small and what provides the most benefit is the lock to lock ratio. No, nobody makes a regular cab truck today that has the lock to lock ratio. CUV and Fwd cars aren't as maneuverable as a reg cab Toyota. I don't believe many people buy anything based on lock to lock ratio. This will always be my #1 complaint about the current truck. Tacoma vs Tundra, yeah the Tacoma would be my better choice for what I want. Ford Mavercick does not deliver either it's not BOF it does not have the ratio, and I have never driven one it drives like a CUV not a truck. Slate wouldn't deliver either, it has a very small footprint and would be good, but it won't provide the range in steering like pre GAF Toyotas.

I have owned 1st,3rd,and now a brand new 4th gen trd off road 4x4..loved em all..the 4th gen by far has the most comfortable drivers seat of them all..I've already seen 24 mpg out of my 2025 trd and it's only got 600 miles on it..it had 5 miles when I bought it.

In contrast, I bought my first Tacoma with 289k on it in 2017... truck has 370k on it today.

Same here. I still have my 1st gen but the more I drive the 4th gen, the less I miss the 3rd gen(which is also fantastic truck).

    I’ve owned…

    1995 Toyota Reg Cab 2WD
    1997 Tacoma Reg Cab 4WD
    2000 Tacoma Ex Cab 4WD
    2004 Tacoma TRD 4-door 2WD
    2012 Tacoma Reg Cab 4WD
    2013 Tacoma 4 door 4WD
    2015 Tacoma Reg Cab 4WD
    2016 Tacoma Ex Cab 4WD
    2019 Tacoma Ex cab-4WD
    2021 Tacoma 4-door 4WD
    2023 Tacoma 4 door 4WD
    2023 Tacoma Ex-cab 4WD (current ride)

They were all good, will I purchase a 4th gen, what do you think lol.

PS, that doesn’t count the 4Runners or the vehicles between each Toyota. There are lots of great vehicles out there, I’ve enjoyed a few.

Then again I don’t buy used either so that’s probably why.

In about 2 to 3 years is when you typically buy a new car.

No Toyota over 300k, but I have owned three Volvo 4-cylinder Wagons with 300,000+ miles on them: Two 240's and one 740. (245, 745)

Funny you mention this I had a 1990 240 wagon that had 330k when I got rid of it. At 330k it was still running fine. Hopefully my 2022 OR will do the same for me.

It's taken me nearly 9 years to put 100k miles on my 2017. I really only started looking at 4th gens after getting rear ended and being concerned it might get totaled. Now that it's repaired, I will likely still move to a 4th gen though I can be patient and may wait to see what changes might be announced for 2026MY

Funny you should mention switching - my funcar is a 4th gen Miata. Switching between the Tacoma and the roller skate is a complete non-issue.

I'm convinced that any of them could easily have made it to 400,000 miles if it weren't for the misc electrical glitches they started to suffer from after ten years or so around 250k they all suffered eventually. The main cause was attributed to "environmentally-friendly" wiring insulation Volvo started using that gradually deteriorated over time and eventually shed from the wires leading to intermittent faults due to bare wires/shorts. (They also started using similar adhesive/glues around this time, which would gradually let go, leaving various things like wrinkled vinyl door panels, sagging headliners, etc). Wiring harnesses and their insulation under the hood were especially prone to the insulation issue, especially the main one that ran across the front of the engine under the fan and crank.

The B2300 4-cyl was bomb-proof, as was the automatic transmission in them (Aisin AW70). Both ran and worked flawlessly: No issues with either and no oil-consumption so long as you adhered to 3-5k oil and filter changes.
