    Hi all,

    Favor to ask...

Could anyone post a photo of their rear tie down d-rings in the truck bed with the kimbo loaded and the rachet straps tightened??

My d-ring "base plate" lifted up once the rachet straps were tightened. Not sure if this is normal or not (2nd gen tacoma fyi). The d-ring base plates are not sitting flat on the truck bed now. I can now see a silver cylindrical part coming up through the bed that the d-ring base plate attaches to. Very similar to the pictures seen in post # 1543 of this thread.

    Thanks!!

It's not the GoalZero 500x (different connections) but someone on here is sure to be able to identify it.

If you are electrically handy, going the custom route would likely be cheaper and more reliable.

Honestly, at this point you could put a much better battery (and charger, etc.) if you pieced it together yourself. Probably cheaper, too. I have a 100Ah battery which is double the storage of the current Bluetti boxes that come with the latest campers.

I think I found a way to raise and lower the spare, but it does require some work ahead of time:
    1. Install the axle dump exhaust so the stock tailpipe (for the Off Road and other trims) doesn't get in the way.
    2. Get a second jack tool that would normally go all the way through the bumper and attach to the raising mechanism, and cut the tool shorter
    3. Use a drill to attach to the jack tool to wind the raising mechanism either up or down.

Sort of a run-around, but unfortunately with the tailgate down there aren't many options for putting a spare tire holder on a swing out. None that I've seen at least.

Hey folks. I've had my Kimbo for three years now and I'm soon to be leaving South Florida and heading west again to play in Colorado. I may be looking to sell mine while I'm out there and was wondering how the Kimbo is doing in the resale market. Appreciate any input; where to list?, how much of a discount off what I paid?, etc. Thanks.

I'd say it might be a good idea to post the camper here (if they allow classifieds). I think I know someone who might be interested in a used Kimbo. I'm sure there are others who do as well.

Facebook has two groups(that I know of) where you could list it. One is a general group and the other is one for owners

Surprised to see emails from Kimbo recently saying that they are offering $2k discount off $30k models and $4k off $40k models. The big eye opener was the line in the email stating that they have a 6-week lead time.

Granted, I ordered mine during Covid mask mandates and the vaccine push (Sep '21), but my wait time for completion was long; I picked up mine June 1, 2022. A 6-week lead time with discounts tells me that demand for this product is drying up.

    Kimbo order# 555

Happy to be a part of the Kimbo family! We are picking up the Kimbo in Bellingham on July 14th! And the next day we are throwing it on a ferry to Orcas Island, across the Puget Sound. For a two day camping adventure before road tripping it back to Wyoming over the next six days! !!
Can't wait for all the other adventures we will be having with this BEAST!!

    Great info on this Forum!

    Also,
I'm planning on running it on my '04 Tacoma 3.4 liter V6 automatic for limping it around within about 200 miles from where I live. granted I have steep climbs and live at 7,220 ft. (Hoping to upgrade in the future) planning on suspension, springs and bags. Possibly even a Turbo with about 5 lbs. of boost, any recommendations? .. or am I just crazy for even attempting it?

unfortunately, i dont have solid advice for you besides joining the Facebook groups "Kimbo campers" and "Kimbo camper owners". The threads on there are a lot more active than here.

Still working out the details on putting my Kimbo on my 2025 Tacoma (6' bed). But I'm close to being finished.

-Relocated the shark fin antenna to the drivers side dash (through the headliner and A-Pillar)
-Used 2 pieces of 1" foam board (similar foam that used with my Tundra) to raise the Kimbo. This along with my OEM bed mat raises the Kimbo to clear the top of the bed rails by about 3/4". It clears the top of the cab by about 2-2-1/2".
-Moved the front ratchet mounts 2-1/2" outboard. This gets the ratchet buckle out between the cab and Kimbo. MUCH easier to tighten it down now.

Curious on how tight you all tighten the front and rear ratchet straps??
I want to tighten them really tight (especially the front straps)(until it won't click any tighter), to avoid the camper shifting in the truck bed.
However, in the Kimbo owners manual it says to only make the straps "snug" to avoid damage and to not overtighten them.
When we loaded my camper in my truck at Kimbo the straps were not super tight (I guess that's snug).
The result was my camper shifted a bit to the rear and made it really hard to close the tailgate.
    Thanks!!

    Hey Q,IMG_1198.jpg
I don't "crank" down on my straps, there're tight/snug and I haven't found my camper moving around any. My Kimbo did move around a bit in the Tundra but not because of the straps. I ended up putting blocks between the camper and the wheel wells which helped (I did the same on the Tacoma).
I ended up taking the bed rail on the front of the bed off so the camper is flat against the back of the cab. Bed mat also reduced some of the movement as well.

Thanks so much H2o-Bar for your thoughts, I really appreciate it!!

That is a fine looking setup that you have there!!
    Great looking rig!!

Yesterday I pretty much overtightened all the ratchet straps and was cranking down on them.
I basically instantly regretted it since they were simply too tight.
This afternoon I loosened all the ratchet straps and reset them to a much looser level, to what I would deem tight/snug.

I think my Kimbo shifted a bit in the bed due to two factors...

    - I drove quite a few miles on very washboarded roads. That will make anything rattle and shift.

    - I drove down, and then up, the Shafer Trail in Canyonlands National Park. The climb out of the canyon is pretty steep and no doubt had a hand to play in the Kimbo shifting backwards

Gotta admit that loosening (and to a lesser degree tightening) the two front straps is a total pain in the butt.
There is simply no room to maneuver the ratchet buckle at it always wants to hit the truck cab.
Having the ratchets a little looser should help with adjustments.

I am very curious... how did you go about moving the front ratchet mounts 2-1/2" outboard??
That will have huge benefit towards adjustments.
