Ill give you that, there is crosshatch now that you provided close up...
BUT the vertical scoring is even worse than I initially saw & suspected.
But end of the day, you still just want to wing-it & just slam it back together with zero machine work from an actual machine shop....
See all those vertical lines throughout the entire circumference of the cylinder????
None of them should be there...
On a bad engine I see 1 or 2 on the inside which require an actual machine shop to do what they do to do it right...
    You have it everywhere.....
You little SC "that everyone runs" destroyed your block, it needs proper machining....
Look at all your other lower piston skirts for scoring...
You have 1 dead piston but all your cylinders are beat!

Yes, it doesnt need to be a race car....
But youre on the path of making it an oil burning POS, but hey, it will be SC....

Vertical scoring lines should not be there at all, on a good cylinder.....
Im not over-reacting, thats not slight / mild scoring that anyone that knows what theyre actually doing will just close their eyes to....

Seems like a lot of money and trouble for an extra 70hp give or take. Put it back to stock, sell it and buy something with a real motor in it.

    uuuugggghhhhhh, yeah!!!!!!
Its not just 1 hole, its all 6.....

probably not but regardless if you can or cant, all the pistons are still toast & block needs real machine work......
Will it run without it, yes, but, will be a joke, low on compression & consume oil, will not last very long before its toast again...

Im not trying to be a dick, if I was, ide just bite my tongue, sit back & watch.....

Bore gauge arrives tomorrow. I'll see if the bore is out of spec if it is ill be buying the new block. If not, I'm going to machine the bore to the high end of the spec and see if the vertical lines are removed.

You will easily be able to remove the vertical scoring but if theres any out of round or taper which there will be regardless if you see it using a bore gauge & micrometers,
you cant remove the out of round & taper using a ball hone, needs to be professionally line honed & properly fitted pistons, correct rings, ring gaps precisely checked, etc...
theres lots of precision involved in correctly rebuilding the modern engine & your bore gauge is only as good as the user with years & years of experience in actual rebuilding engines & all the knowledge, do's & donts behind it...

I did this crap for a living, I dont claim to be a machinist.....
Takes more than just u tube & a little bit of confidence to do it right....

May take a couple years to determine if you did it right or wrong at the end of the day, regardless how you do it.
My point, do it right the first time & from your words, not mine, youre just going to slam it back together replacing a piston...

OK, since we are throwing around what we do for a living...

I'm a degreed electrical and industrial engineer, I've worked as a machinist for 5 years in the past, I've also worked on million dollar+ custom robotic cells. Now I do mostly industrial engineering work.

Now if anyone knows how to make sure tolerances are right it's me. I don't need to trust in some guy at a machine shop that doesn't give a f* about me or my engine. You are clearly an old guy that thinks his way is absolute. In today's world, you can pretty much do anything with some research. I'd say at this point you're useless here and should move along. Enjoy retirement.

No no no, I'm not touching tune. That will be a professional lol, but the original tune from yotaworx was apparently "professional" too.

    im 52, not that old...
Theres lots of things that toyota engineers dont publish.....

Did you know that majority of the modern ford engines / short blocks today ford doesnt even want their own mechanics to rebuild them, that have access to every bearing & piston combination there is....
Tolerances are to tight to be able to do it correctly....

If it needs a piston, they want you to replace the short block cuz just replacing a piston will result in a come-back for whatever reason....

Cant find that info on utube, but I can buy pistons & bearings all day long....

I'm definitely buying a new short block from toyota. Just busting your chops, you have opened my eyes young man. Getting the updated quote and lead time now.

    I appreciate your passion.

there is no passion anymore, I hate this shit at this point…
I’m not trying to be a dick, it amazes me what the guys on this forum do trying to save a dollar, these motors are complex and I applaud you & others here for going elbows deep without being scared…
I’m not saying a Toyota short block might be the best route. If you keep that supercharger on there, you find a reputable machine shop that knows what they’re doing. Maybe the better route and the end of the day you get a better finished product than a Toyota OEM short block.
you’ll have to do the research , this time, I’m really done here….:D
Cant be frugal at this point, if it sits till you have the funds, so be it...
you either take my advice or do it your way, end of the day, my vehicle runs…

How much boost are you running on the setup that nuked your engine? If you use a new block and pistons expect the same end result. You either need to lower boost on the system or beef up the components… rods, pistons, and the like. Supercharging is a lot more $$ than the SC kit alone to be done right.

4-5lbs, yotawerx tune got it up to 7-8lbs because of the higher rpms.

I want to apologize to you guys (OTT) for lashing out. I thought the tune just needed to be changed and everything would be fine. I was definitely wrong about that and fully understand where you guys are coming from on the liability of a damaged vehicle. No one is to blame here other than Yotawerx and myself for being their guinea pig. Unfortunately I ran the yotawerx tester tune for about 6 months and then the problems occurred. When I reached out to them they stated there had been "many changes to the tune" but, I guess they forgot to inform me? Well, regardless Im replacing the block repairing the damage and should have a nice functional motor. I'm hoping you guys can forgive me on anything negative I said in the past and will help me get this truck tuned properly. You guys did not deserve to get blasted.
