I might be repeating myself. I know they're are a few people around with Prerunner I think it's only two, but no one has a 4x4 Xtracab around here? I think the close as it got somebody test drove a 4x4 SR Xtracab and didn't like it enough to buy it. I know most owners would have only had a 4x4 for maybe six months at the longest, there probably isn't too many in circulation

I haven't seen many posts about it neither, I would love to see a nice in-depth 3-6 months review on one. Personally, if the price was correct, I could see myself going with the newer 2024/2025 access cab Tacoma. But what ultimately killed the idea in my head, was NO SUICIDE doors. Just from watching a couple YT vids of people covering them, it looked awful. Such a headache to reach into the rear section of the cab, let alone, trying to get a passenger back there. It isn't for Adults, and no parent in their right mind would want the daily fight to get the Child back there and strapped in and out daily multiple times a day. I could get used to the new turbo engines, but the extra cab only have 2 doors is truly biggest downfall in my mind. All this coming from someone who sought out their used access cab and absolutely LOVE the 2 door cab trucks.

The configuration doesn't make much sense. Maybe I long for the inconvenience of 90s midsize trucks. Most of the places I park I can't open any door that far no rear door wouldn't make much of a difference. Sunvisors snow brushes maybe a clean shirt and hat or coat I never wear ends up back there no matter what vehicle. 4dr cab makes more sense, I'd just want the shorter cab every time I saw one on the road. True regular cabs I do like more. 4x4 Xtracab under 35k would be much more easy to over look the no doors situation, 35 with room for discount.

I guess if you're in a Mid/Bigger City, Southern enough that 1" of snowfall completely shuts all the highways down and Schools as well, with nothing but compact vehicle parking, I could see the 4x2 reg cab/extra cab without suicide doors making a bit more sense. Even if the person isn't a Parent, doesn't have Wife/Husband and mostly drives themselves 24/7/365, maybe the loss of the opening suicide doors isn't a big deal/factor is their buying decision. But just trying to throw a couple Wal-Mart bags back there, or some tools for work or play ex: bike floor pump, extra life jackets and or clothing or cooler or whatever else one could come up with, it's going to be a hassle. Always having to fold the drivers seat forward, scooting it all the way forward, just to try and be able to get enough clearance to toss/grab whatever bag or item into the "extra cab" cargo area. I wouldn't want to do all that as an 18 year old strong as could be youngin', let alone older Adult with any real living done hah. Again, I have not seen one in person yet, I haven't been able to actually see in live in front of me, play around with the cab and see the dimensions and space in person. Maybe if the deal was stellar, the trade in worth it to me (never gonna happen) and I just needed to spend some money on something.... I guess I could make it work. But the whole losing the suicide doors to me is a HUGE miss on Toyota's part and I just don't see them selling well. But this is all just from some internet rando, what the hell do I know?

I wonder which truck the people that use them on the job everyday prefer 4G with no access doors or 3G wirh access doors.

Good question, I'm sure some fella's with some experience could jump in and share their experience. I know I wouldn't want to lug full tool bags and equipment up and over the driver/passenger seat daily. Plus with the access cab suicide doors, you have the option of removing the jump seats, and adding in a platform like the Goose Gear or taking a weekend and building you're own version.

Indeed they account for a small percentage of delivered trucks in the US, but this guy got one a year ago: 1000007585~2.jpg

The press vehicle The Car Care Nut got last year was xtra cab 4x4. It has the smaller axle and weaker tulip CVs as SR5s do.

They probably like driving the 4G and prefer the suicide doors on the 3G
Interesting, I haven't watched a car video in probably over a year. Did Toyota install the OR wheels to draw attention?

I'd imagine the Xtracab drives like any SR 4door and beca touch lighter than the 4dr.

Looks like the owner bought the TRD takeoffs from Ebay. Looks much better than the goofy looking standard SR5 wheels. I'd love to do the same for my truck, but I might just go with some Method's eventually.

Back in the olden days of Armstrong steering and window cranks, when trucks were trucks and men were men (and when people weren't afraid to scratch the bed of a truck); small items got thrown in the passenger seat or floorboard.

When Toyota introduced the Xtra cab to get around the chicken tax, the extra space behind the seat was a bonus. Tool belts and small styrofoam beer coolers could go back there, instead of in the bed with the chain saw and rusty coffee can full of fencing staples. Sometimes you would briefly fold a seat forward to make access a bit easier.

The access cab seemed like a good idea. You could open a door and put even bigger stuff behind the seat - theoretically. In practice not much really fit back there, and you quickly found you were constantly opening and closing doors because you couldn't get around them if somebody was parked next to you. You still had limitations, just with different complications.

In either configuration, you couldn't get grown humans back there. I suppose some folks complained of having seats they couldn't really use, so the crew/double cab was born - creating back seats you can sort of use. That increased area behind the front seat also put some things out of reach of the driver.

Toyota must have heard the cries of old working men, and gave them back the Xtra cab. The passenger seat folds down and has a hard work surface even. There are a couple of extra cubbies to hold (or hide) things that aren't accessed frequently. The only complaint I can come up with is that they should have swapped the location of the little tool box and the jack storage.

You get a bigger bed, which is the purpose of a truck. If you need to keep things out of the weather, or to keep honest people honest, you can put a topper or tonneau on it. If you really need a bunch of fixed doors, extra seats and a relatively secure place for stuff; Toyota makes a 4Runner for you.

Owner got the TRD wheels used. Typical day-one mods like airdam delete and wheels/tires.

This particular one is SR5, so it doesn't have the detuned engine like the SR. Probably hauls ass better than a stock 3rd gen, 2nd gen, old 4Runner V8...

It's amazing we even survived the 90's without access cab doors.

There aren’t any seats back there, so you wouldn’t be putting kids in the back anyway.

It's like how we joke on the trail:
    "Using rear locker is cheating!"
"Using more than 4 cylinders is cheating!"

    I’m looking for one now.

I contacted nine dealerships in the SF bay area and only one was willing to help me find one.

Indeed, the 5 foot bed trucks are useless for camping. For me, anyway.

Hoping to have an SR5, 4WD, extra cab, 6 foot bed by this fall….

    Sorry I can’t help with a review.

I had the 3rd gen access cab OR. I wanted an access cab like they showed on Toyota's sites for my 25 but they only had SR models. I have zero use for the back seats in my 4 door i cant even fit back there. I tried to take an animal to the vet sitting back there while my wife drove but my legs are too long. My new one is an OR Premium with 6’ bed and its turning radius is more than my Tundra.Id probably trade it if they had well equipped access cabs.

I just want a little parts truck like they'd use down at autozone. I like the DCLB but I might as well stay in a fullsize and if I replaced with another fullsize I'd get an HD. I saw a DCLB I liked, but it had the large screen and I don't want to pay for that package only because I don't want it. Even the short bed Offroad looks good, but that's not what I want.

I thought I saw some different SR5 wheels on the Toyota commercial, bu I think they are the SR5 wheels that are currently on the trucks since 24, the render makes the outer spokes look enclosed instead of open, best way I can describe it is a six spoke 2G OR SR5 wheel which are five spoke.
