just a couple of things tbh
also odd thing i learned about the xr150l is it doesnt have a oil filter. the bike has a oil screen that is internal on the engine that you replace at 7500miles sooo who ever that dude was that was looking into buying that xr150l make sure its been done or you get it done once you hit that mileage.

In just a short while the 2025 Iron Butt Rally will commence with riders departing Coralville, Iowa to begin their grand adventure. I know a few of these folks and wish them all a safe and fun adventure.

    https://www.ldxrally.com/2025-iron-butt-rally

The first daily reports are posted for days -2 and -1. There is a FJR owner mentioned who brought the wrong paperwork along and so the VIN numbers aren't matching up. They mention the rider having 2 FJRs so I'm really hoping it isn't my friend Nate from LA as he owns 2 x 2015 bikes.

Groms dont have external oil filters either. Just a screen above the clutch iirc

Also have checked fuel mileage on almost every vehicle. One its good to know how far you can get once the light turns on (if you pay attention to know how many gallons are left) and not every bike has had a fuel gauge either. Im not actually sure any of my bikes have had true fuel gauges, just low lights if that.

This year I started keeping track of mileage out of curiosity as there is no official rating. So far with 15 fill ups I'm averaging 56mpg (4.2 L/100km). Mostly city / commuting rides get 61mpg (3.8 L/100km), and woods / trail get 54mpg (4.3 L/100km).

On average fuel light will come on @ 68-75 miles (110-120 kms), from there you can get another 25 miles (40 kms) before you'll get fuel cuts on hard acceleration.

I always freak out on trails about fuel but I barely use 3 liters with my 250 in 4-5 hours. I tow my wr to trails so I don't have to worry about it.

Highway kills my fuel economy with the WR, full throttle high revs for an hour is all it takes to eat a tank. My 6th gear is basically useless. Planning on running a more aggressive sprocket now.

I do at least a few times on bikes that I travel with longer distances. This way I can plan fuel stops / have an idea of how far I can go before needing to come back to civilization.

Ill bet the XR150L is very much like the grom (as its an older style honda motor) Oil pump pickup screen-which has been mentioned. But also the crank oil spinner, a centrifugal filter that spins on the end of the crank that pulls the heavy particles out of the oil. They are super simple and work surprisingly well.

I usually just ride trails to the midpoint of a tank and then make a decision on how much further in I'll be headed, or to start heading back. Most spots I frequent have staging areas and there's often other people out with campers and all the toys. I figure worst case I can always buy some gas from someone in an emergency. Will need to change that strategy though when I get a different bike and head into the mountains solo.

I have the larger 2.7 gallon fuel tank. I am going to install my rear rack and rotopax and find out how many miles it can go.

2021 and earlier have oil spinners and no oil filter. They are also the 4speed models. I installed the kitaco side cover on my monkey to eliminate the oil spinner and have a replaceable oil filter. It’s an expensive piece.

~95 miles until light comes on according to my napkin math for your tank.

Screen doesn't do much, it's got pretty big pores. On my grom when I looked at the screen at my first oil change it just had the extra chunks of gasket maker on it. I doubt I'll check it very often after that change honestly.

OK yeah, that makes more sense then if you aren't running tanks down and directly filling.

21 or 22 and up have a cartridge oil filter now. Still have the screen inside, but don't have the oil spinner portion. It's a cute little filter haha.

huh how interesting. tbh i prob wont even look at the thing since its only recommended to be changed at 7500miles (this was according to the manual). so im sure its fine lol just thought it was rather odd to not have a filter as well.

I did the same with my 2018 SF Grom. Expensive, but in my opinion worth it. I could have gone with the new Grom. The 5-speed would have been nice, but I love the Stormtrooper look of the Street Fighter.

I will be testing that. I have a 115 mile trip mapped out so I will know soon. I have not had the fuel light come on yet.

My bike does this weird thing where once it gets to "reserve", it starts counting up telling you how much fuel you've used and also starts a new reserve tripmeter to show how far you've ridden. Doesn't say what the reserve is in the manual, but I've heard anywhere between 3 and 5 liters. Most folks think it's a little shy of a gallon (of the 4.7g tank).

Pic stolen from Reddit: Said this is when it ran outta gas.
