which i knew was a weak spot on these, but it happened officially to me when trying to remove
    my radar detector plug

i silicone it back on with black rtv and it held surprisingly well
but id rather not risk it breaking again - also strangely this plug that popped out
doesnt appear to be working anymore...maybe ill check the fuse
i heard changing out the actual plug is behind dash and a pain
and planned on just keeping this one or both capped off and unused...

    question, options??
for my radar detector or in-cab power (besides the OEM USB)
does anyone run a small jackery in their truck instead? top it off
with bed outlets once in a while maybe?

i think they can power radar detectors but wasnt positive, or where id keep
    the jackery

    thanks

If you're saying run the radar detector off the jackery i think that's overcomplicating it. Better to just fix the cigarette outlet plug and/or hardwire the radar detector. I've thought about having a jackery in my bed camping setup but I do remember reading some stuff about the factory tacoma bed inverter not playing well with the AC charger for the jackery. I think it had something to do with the modified sine wave but I don't know electronics well enough to remember or understand it lol

If your radar detector is mounted at the top of your windshield just tap into the key on 12v at the rearview mirror, this kit makes it nice and easy and clean.

If it's lower down on the dash you can use an add a fuse kit and route the wires as desired.

thank you! that hardwired fuse kit is interesting, might try that out!
i rember there are some kits that use the OBDII port i see as well
but someday i wanted to use that for a garmin mini dash cam

tempted to stop using my other 12v plug and just seal them shut forever lol

so weird how they made them loose and a lot of accounts of them popping out hot or w.e.

    thanks again

Yeah no prob, similar concept works for dashcams too as long as you don't want it recording while key is off, unless there's a constant on 12V wire up there too I can't remember. I'll have to look into it if I ever pull the trigger on a dashcam
