Crank Shaft Damage

Anyone have experience or knowledge with Jarco Engines? According to this thread they are the engines sold through the Toyota Dealership. https://www.4runners.com/threads/new-5vz-fe-engine.20762/

All of the popular/recommended reman engines (Yota1, Powertrain, etc) have a 3-9 month wait time. Too many bad reviews for JDM used engines so I don't want to go that route. Next option is rebuild as you have mentioned @slater

 

Im strictly a ford guy inregards to my hands on experience...
Ive been forced to install some a dozen or so Jasper engines over the years....
Usually when third party warranties didnt want to pay ford pricing or if theres major supply chain issues & the customer is twitching / convulsing & cant wait....

Call Richard at Action & pick his brain on cost....
Tell him your key way clot is F'd up, etc...
Ask him cost on rebuilding your engine, would be replace the crank or repair it & re-machine it, etc...

I have no idea but need to start asking questions to gain the knowledge & make a decision....

Is there a machine shop your current shop likes using?

 

Yeah the current shop has a machine shop they use and said he’s going to give them a call for me. I forget the name.
I will call Richard in the meantime as well

 

Also, got some more photos back. I’m pretty sure they re used the original crank bolt and ruined the threads, then tried to use a grease lubrication to get bolt in. I couldn’t get crank bolt to screw in straight.
Also, not an OEM crank pulley

 

Probably not a new crank pulley either,
Wouldn't surprise me, just rattle canned it black...

I said it from the get go, threads in the crank do not give me a warm fuzzy feeling....

that pulley fix attempt looks like what a 12yr old would attempt on their loose BMX bike L crank that was loose/stripped.


I mean, kudos to a kid ‘trying’ but a shop charging an owner and trying that crap???

Isn't it insanity? Thanks for your condolences. Honestly having this forum community pissed off with me somehow eases the suffering haha

 

It could be worse, they could have tried welding it.

 

Dont think that would be worse if done professionally by a machine shop......

Add metal & machine it to spec...
Requiring removing crank completely...

 

Richard quoted me $6800 for crank replacement and engine rebuild. Two weeks time. Leaning toward that option.

To be honest I just assumed it included removal and install. I only had a few mins to call while at work today and just asked for quick estimate on crank and rebuild.

Still weighing my options here but I will call back and ask for more specifics. Any thing else I should be clarifying or aware of?

My guess, it probably does include all the labor to remove & install also at that price which would be reasonable but dont ever assume...

Off the top of my head, I cant think of anything else you should clarify....

If he does proceed with the repairs, always a good idea to give hime the heads-up that if he sees anything questionable while he's in there that should be replaced to give you a call....
Like hoses, stat, clutch, motor mounts, exhaust manifold, etc.....

But yes, def call him back & ask if that includes labor to pull & reinstall the engine, him doing all the work...
He is the most reasonably priced option in town as far as I know...

Theres only one other shop around, "ricks machine shop"
Rick is getting up there in age these days but still at it....

Both options are in the same area...

Filed with small claims court and have a court date set in October. In the meantime I decided to do the engine rebuild with Arce Engines in Santee area. They are doing the rebuild next week or the week after.

 

Reread my post #35... it is a blueprint, winning the judgement is one thing, collecting is another.

 

Never heard of them, but end of the day sounds like youre moving forward & got it somewhat figured out...
