Which year model has the best LED headlights. Looking to replace my 2018 Sport TRD 4x4 halogen headlights with DRL’s. Looking to keep the factory light stalk to turn the DRL’s on/off. Also, best place to purchase the upgraded wiring harness.

The full LED 20-23 models are going to be your best bet. @Puppypunter can make you the required wiring harness I believe.

Stalk works perfectly with my Morimoto's.. and they're brighter and come with necessary harnesses. But IIRC all the factory led lights are the same, just pick your favorite color scheme.

There are only two factory LEDs…TRD Pro or TRD Sport/OR. All 2020-2023.

only differences are black styling with TRD PRO labels on the TRD Pro version, and chrome styling with no labels on OR/Sport.

Not a fan of the TRD on RH and PRO on LH side of light for my Sport model. But I do like the black looks on headlights.

Probably need to talk to @no vtec 4me then. He offers a service to take the headlights apart and remove the badging. I think he’ll also paint the Chrome ones, but if you’re buying, may as well buy them in the right color and just have the badges removed.

I think @no vtec 4me closed up shop? I could be wrong though... He did do my OEM LEDs for me. Got rid of the TRD PRO plates and swapped the sidemarker from an amber to a grey.
On the new Morimotos the DRL uses a fuse tap to drive the DRL, so they are on whenever the truck is on. I have made a harness to get around that though if you want them to turn off when the stalk is set to OFF, so that isn't hard to get around.

I can promise you mine don't use that tap and they work perfectly.

But with that said, the amber is so good, I can't find any reason to ever turn them off.

Did he stop offering that service? I haven’t seen that and I briefly checked his posts and didn’t see that, but I may have missed whatever the latest is. In that case, I highly recommend the chrome OEMs, because I don’t like TRD ORO badges at all. Hell, even if I had a TRD pro, I don’t like those. I would literally probably try to hey those removed if I had a pro.

Regardless, if I couldn’t do OEM LED, I’d stay with the OEM halogens. I really don’t think they are bad at all and after owning Morimoto products, I’d never buy anything from them again, so that leaves me with OEM halogen as the only reasonable option.

Edit: I see it was discussed this past weekend by a few folks that he has sold his equipment and stopped offering his services semi quietly. That’s a shame. Anyways, I guess that puts me in the chrome camp. Which is what I had on my truck with zero qualms up until I sold them because I thought I was trading in the truck. Now that I intend on keeping the truck, I am probably going to just keep the halogens.

It is the other way around. TRD on RH, and PRO an LH.
I am the opposite of you all. I wrote in another post, I swapped out OEM LED headlights to the TRD Pro LEDs, in my 2023 TRD OffRoad. All pretty!:D

Are yours the XB Evos? Those use a fuse tap to drive the DRL (as well as the heaters) on all the trims. So the DRL is on anytime the fuse is powered, and since they tap an ignition controlled circuit, the DRL are on anytime the truck is running. They do dim with the low beams though. Morimoto did them this way for compatibility with the SR trims, but it is true for all trims. The older Morimoto headlights didn’t have that issue I believe, but those aren’t brighter than OEM LEDs. If you don’t mind not being able to turn off the DRL (or you’re Canadian and don’t have that option anyway), then it doesn’t matter.
Yeah, I don’t recall where I saw that he stopped. He did great work. I have a set of halogens he did for me still sitting in a box. Then he did my LEDs. I was half tempted to buy another set of LEDs just to have him do them as spares :p

I have the pro versions. If the morimoto xb evo's were an option at the time I probably would have that route.

You are a unicorn for sure
I always thought there could be a market for customized plates to replace those TRD ones. But they are a little more complex than I thought they were.

I never used his services, but that was mainly because I didn’t even know they existed until way later. That said, I didn’t even notice the non-pros had chrome in them until I saw all the posts about it. But, chrome doesn’t bother me in small quantities, so not surprising at all that it flew under my radar.

If I ever decide to buy OEM LEDs again, it’ll be the chrome version and I won’t bother to do anything about it. But I’m probably staying halogen forever. The only reason to go back to led is so that the headlights and high beams match the color temp of my high beam light bar.

Those Evo’s seem pretty popular. I would worry about longevity though? I’d probably go with the supercharger option, which would shorten their life as well. But anything can break I suppose.

    Gotta have that sweet 6000K!
And I agree about the chrome, it is pretty minimal. The main thing I wanted with mine was getting rid of the amber side marker.

Supercharger option for sure, but my oem's are plenty bright. The ss3 max fogs and ss3 pro ditch lights help too.

I like that the morimoto evo's will melt snow/ice. The oem's won't, but the fogs and ditch lights I have will.

Hah, to each their own I spose. I want to remain DOT compliant, but I also like the look of the amber marker lens anyways. But it is neat that it can be customized anyways.

I do. I had the gen2 and now the Evo's and if you remember from the other thread there is something different about how my truck is configured with the setup. I never needed to use the fuse tap with the gen2 and I also never needed one with my Evo's and everything works as it should.

And according to Morimoto the superchargers should not affect the lifespan at all. They are just full power vs the standard ballasts that are dimmed down for legality.
