TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Just pulled mine out last night as I am painting it and doing rust remediation work on the frame. No issues. I have 8 gal in the tank when the light pops on the dash. Gives me plenty time for a gas station and still has enough fuel to cool the pump. Mine is on a DCLB with two bracket modifications.

 

Good to hear. I am almost set on finally adding it. I like the idea of having it all down low when I want to lighten the rear or keep that for extra water for the long haul of even Gas for those super remote spots. ie: Baja where you need all the premium you can hold in some places. Anyone paint their tank black? I was thinking of doing so if/when to keep it more incognito. Anyone add an extra "skid" plate? Curious how it would fair for things like the rubicon or other bumpy trails =)

 

I painted mine black (bed liner). Holding up well after a few years. No skid plate. You know it sticks down pretty far, might not make your rig handle rock crawling as well. Good for “overlanding” across areas where you don’t have access to gas or premium fuel if your tune requires it.

 

Which vendor did you guys purchase your LRA tanks through? I’ve also been considering one for some added range while towing

 

I may end up with one if I keep my truck for going to Baja - for that premium grade reason. It was ok finding it with my motorcycle, but I could easily “detune” it if I ended up with lower grade. The truck is less easy.

 

So I ran it bone stock. It was stamped as a 2017 model. In the rust belt most of its life. The welds lose the coating first. I took a wire cup to the entire thing then primed it all. I just dropped it off yesterday for Patriot Lining (LineX, whatever all the same stuff but a professional application if you will). I am doing the back half of the truck for rust remediation and had to drop the tank anyway. I got spoiled in Colorado with zero humidity. I am catching up on quite a bit now.

 

Well, it's in and "running" still have a few more things that need to be done, but it's good to be at this stage of progress! It's been a long time coming!

Is it getting Dyno'd? Would love to see the numbers on it

 

Maybe, I honestly wasn't concerned with overall "numbers" and since I never got a base dyno, I have no reference point. I mainly went in knowing I needed some help getting this heavy truck to be able to pass on the highways, and climb the multitude of mountain passes, and inclines in Colorado. I'd prefer to get an updated OTT tune, but if timing doesn't work out, then I'll be getting the truck towed to the VT Racing US rep, and dyno tuned.

 

We also sell remote kits if you're comfortable with flashing yourself.

 

Yeh, I've done remote flashing for my old Audi, and BMW. Hopefully everything lines up, and I don't have to go that route.

Anyone know if this slide hammer OTC 4581 OTC, Slide Hammer Blind Hole Bearing Set - 25J228|4581 - Grainger. will work in extracting the needle bearings in the TRD SC?

 

Have any of you guys replaced the black plastic coolant reservoir with something aluminum or something more better?
