I know that in most (a lot) of states, new vehicles are emissions exempt for 5-7+ years. Is this tune going down the path of SEMA EO like the 3rd gen tune?

Honestly I would love to drop some cash on a turbo upgrade for my 4G, it's such a good platform. Keep us posted on the Stage 3!

I had my OTT tune done a couple months ago. I went with Mild/Medium and could immediately feel the touchier throttle. It does seem to shift smoother, more like I would expect it to. It sometimes feels like it doesn't quite know what gear to be in like in a parking lot or short section of street. Before the tune, the truck would rush to get into 4th, and then would almost feel like it would lug if I was getting and staying at 35 or so and then without moving my foot on the gas, a sudden burst of acceleration. I just want smooth linear torque and for it not to feel like the bottom falls out. Even with the tune, it still does this, it just doesn't happen as soon as it used to before the tune. I am hoping that going from 87 to a higher octane will help with these things. Thoughts?

    I have Mild Drive/Spicy ECT.

What I've noticed is in parking lots/low speed areas, the engine is ready for acceleration.

I've learned to adjust my foot pressure so as not to awaken the beast of an engine! lol

It does take longer to get to 6th gear when in Drive and accelerating on the freeway/highway.

The Power is there on Demand for sure when ECT is used!

I use 87 octane and have not put higher levels since owning my first new truck!

While my truck was getting the TRD Lift, I had a 2024 Automatic Limited as a Loaner.

The height of the Limited was equivalent to the lift on my truck.

Both trucks rode/drove very similarly and the acceleration was almost the same.

I have definitely noticed what you describe in parking lots and I sometimes just coast through those because I know that if I push the accelerator, the truck will lurch. I have barely used ECT, mostly because I like how much quieter the truck is when ECT is off. I love the truck, but at the end of the day, I really just want to put it in D and go and have the truck behave like I want without having to hit ECT, or S mode or anything :). When I am hitting it pretty hard to get onto the freeway, it is great, and no problem at all in adaptive cruise. If I head into a hill and it has to drop to 5th, it doesn't bother me at all.

Try sliding your foot back just a bit and using more of your toe and less of the ball of your foot. This seemed to work well for me until I got used to the medium/spicy tune.

I've used my foot as you mentioned for mostly all my driving life.

Never had a vehicle that required me applying any sort of brute force...unless, I'm operating a forklift! lol

    Thanks for the advice.

Yesterday I installed larger tires, went from 265/65/16 to 275/70/17 (2.6" larger diameter).

Should a different flash/tune be installed? My current tune I believe is mild/medium and I’ve been very happy with it.
The truck feels a little lethargic, but I believe that is to be expected since I went with a taller and heavier tire.
Is a different tune necessary or will my ECU overtime adjust/recalibrate? I have not changed ring pinion.

You’re fine to run what you have. When you change the R&P you’ll want to update for sure.

Many clients go up in throttle to help overcome the increased rotational mass from heavier/larger wheels and tires. Let your tuner know you’d like to try a different throttle setting (if you choose too).

    Thank you for the reply.
Is going up in throttle similar to if I tried my ECT button or is going up in throttle a different setting inside of the tune?

@JustDSM Does the OTT for the MT 4G maintain the 5200rpm redline?

I'm excited for the additional power from the tune, but it sounds like Toyota set that redline for some good reasons re: engine vibrations/harmonics so I hope the redline can be kept the same as stock (even if the low redline makes me sad).

Our current Stage 1 files for the MT vehicles do retain the OE rev limiter.

We can set them to the Auto specification but we’ve elected to retain the OE limiter as the standard option.

Just got mine, medium spicy. No longer want to get rid of my truck. It’s night and day difference with throttle response

Any issue with getting my 3rd gen tuned and then immediately taking a 2k mile round trip; Like driving non stop for 500-800 miles straight from the tuner? Lol

If the vehicle is in sound mechanical condition, there's nothing you will need to be concerned about. Enjoy the trip!
