Wonder if axles are the same other than that or if they changed something there as well. Not that I plan to have axle issues with the 10.5, but having to get them re-drilled to Tacoma pattern was annoying

I'm not sure honestly, I know the diffs are different, but I haven't had any need to pull one apart. The 10.5 axle would be a no brainer upgrade for a lot of guys if the bolt pattern was easier to take care of.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a fair point. For the direction I've wanted to go, it works but for most, it's not a good path to take...unless you could in fact have axle shafts readily available with the 6x5.5 lug pattern.

The new Toyota axle plant is being built close by to me and I know a few people that work there, so I'm hoping I can receive some insight on the compatibility of the 9.5 axle shafts with the prior year 10.5. I kind of doubt it could work, but you never know. I should at least be able to receive some basic info to share.

Truck is all buttoned up and filled with fluids. Break in starts now!

so far the 4.88’s are noticeably torquier, the truck seems to accelerate a little better, but I haven’t hammered it at all. Following ECGS’s guidance on break in.

The finish appears to be marred. I'll give you $10 plus shipping.
