Posted on reddit about this but didn't get much help so here I am! I just recently picked up a 2022 Toyota Tacoma. Everything has been great other than I'm noticing a sound in my back seat that I can't seem to figure out where it's coming from.

it's very obviously a bolt or screw rolling around somewhere it shouldn't be and it's quite annoying as I can hear it when I accelerate, turn, and brake.

    Video showing the sound: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZGaWfYEadtI

    ----

I lifted the back seat up and checked the storage compartments and jack compartments, I moved the seat belts back onto to the actual seat, I checked everywhere I could find but haven't had any luck.

Would really love to get this fixed. Any insight would be great. Thanks

Something under your seat? The front passenger seat? The door storage areas? The rear passenger seat belts not clipped to the side?

The under seat storage boxes have hollow space behind the lip that will easily hide a small bolt or socket.

Try feeling under there. If no luck, empty the storage boxes, leave them open, then drive to an empty parking lot. Drive in reverse at about 10-15 mph and slam on the brakes. If something is under there, that will make it appear.

From previous experience. I had a loose socket extension that drove me batty.

Is this normal? Friend with a tacoma just called me and told me to check under the bed where the spare tire is. There is a chain hanging inside the spare.

Normal. Drop the spare and tuck the chain to secure it.

Have another drive your vehicle while you sit in the back trying to find the noise. It would drive me crazy too.

Could set your phone to record. Then tape it down to the rear driver side matt as you say out loud the location. Drive. Reset location. Repeat.
Then when you listen to the whole soundtrack the loudest one will tell you where it is.

Planning on doing this once my girl has a chance to help me. Honestly It's been getting louder and it sounds like its in the rear passenger seat somehow. I don't think this chain I sent above is necessarily causing the issue because it sounds like it's coming from within the cab.

Figured. Friend mentioned his didn't have that so we were thinking it may be the issue but based on the sound, it doesn't seem like it to me.

    Solved...
I decided to pay a lot of attention to where the sound was coming from, and it was obviously from where the jack / handle is. I started feeling into some of the groves not visible by eye and I felt a bolt. Removed the jack so I could get a better angle of pulling it out and then eventually got it out.

That’s the spare wheel nut that everyone should have on hand.

Hmmm ... I don't remember seeing that in my truck. But it doesn't matter since I have four "spares" from having installed the wheel locks.

Wasn't saying they were issued from the factory, just that everyone should pick up a spare or two like you have.
