Ride Shocks by Accutune

After 4 years on the TRD Fox shocks I started researching 2.5 shocks with remote reservoirs. I was on the fence between Fox performance elite & the new RIDE shocks. After seeing several posts on here about the corrosion issues Fox clicker adjusters were having, I decided to take a chance and try the new shocks designed by Accutune. They've been on the truck for less than a week, but I've already taken them off-road and I am very happy with my purchase. Initial impressions are that the truck feels much more in control.


For anyone else considering these shocks, start by weighing your vehicle. RIDE has different spring rates/valving based on weight. Rather than estimate your truck's weight, it is best to visit a scale and get an accurate weight. My total weight with driver & full tank of gas is 5,850. Front axle is 3,050. Rear axle is 2,800. I was recommended to get 700 lbs/in springs up front. For the rear I was ~800 lbs over stock, and this puts you in the HD leaf pack territory (Deaver stage III), although I ended up purchasing Archive Garage's HD leaf pack.

I installed everything myself over the course of a week. This was my first time doing any suspension work, so when I did have some questions during the install RIDE/Accutune was quick to respond.

I haven't had fancy suspension before so I don't have any experience for comparing to the adjustable King or Fox offerings. But overall I am very impressed with the RIDE quality of these new shocks.

 

Looks like this thread is getting spoiled today @th3clara with two new post regarding these shocks… anyway, so I have to say these shocks are a huge improvement over the fox 2.5 dsc race series I had previously. Everything about them is better, on-road performance, Offroad performance, looks and everything else you can think of in which a set of shocks should behave. One of the biggest complaints I had with my fox's was how stiff they rode. It felt as if I could feel every imperfection on the road which would end up turning my truck into an absolute rattle box. Long road trips became very tiresome and eventually irritating because of how bad this was and even friends or family that were in the car would ask why my truck rode so bad. High speed dips were also where the fox's did not shine. I cant be the only one to say that when your in a truck and you see a dip in the road naturally you go faster instead of slowing down. Well thats me and whenever that was the case it felt like I was jumping off the ground when I was coming out of the dip. I was watching Dirtking's comparison video with fox's and their own shocks and even they were stating the fox's felt "jumpy" or like it was actually loosing contact from the ground when they would go through the dips/whoops. That being said I had to make the transition and it was between the new Dirtking and Ride Shocks which by the way, @AccuTune Offroad that would be a pretty cool comparison video since both of your HQ's are only 20min apart and both shocks are custom tuned for the tacoma... I ended up going with the Ride Shocks simply because of the information they had to provide on their shocks and how they performed, the statistics do not lie. The on road performance of these shocks is great, I still need to fine tune the adjusters to my liking but compared to the fox it is a night and day difference, no more rattle box or skipping trucks. Offroad performance is also much much better. I have not had time to take it on trails but I do have fire roads that I can take it on, and just simply going through those I can feel how much of a difference there is. With the Ride shocks it feels like I'm still on a paved road and with the fox's it felt like I was taking my truck through whoops. Everything in between with these shocks is so much better as well, Id love to rant on an on about how good they are but I'll keep it as short as possible, all I have to say it get them and give Accutune a chance to let their work shine, these are an amazing product and everything about them feels top notch, and unless you have them on your truck already you will not be able to feel the true performance these shocks have to offer. P.S. they look amazing on any color truck too!!

@troyohara1 also thank you for posting up. I'm glad to see that all of our hard work is paying off. A comparison btw Elka/Dirt King and Ride would be a good one. There are some similarities with the construction, but I think you made the right choice.

Anyone else’s hose rub a little on the coil on the front driver side? I just noticed mines rubbed slightly. Tried readjusting the reservoir but damn this thing is so beefy there’s hardly any play.

These are awesome! If you have digressive shocks and are unhappy like I was off road, get these. Literally moving at 4x the speed and feel like there's alot more to go. The adjusters work wonders. Was able to trim out hard side to side and g out situations with low speed adjusters. Harsh a$$ wash board was tamed no problem with the high speed adjuster. Also the AccuTune Uca alignment starting point was spot on for our rig.

7 months with RIDE shocks and all I can say is WOW! These things are amazing offroad for both slow technical trails and faster driving on forest roads. I'm always surprised with how in control the vehicle feels both on road and off road.

I change the compression adjusters almost every time I go offroad, and then again before driving back home on the hwy. They really work well once you figure out the sweet spot for on-road vs offroad driving. On road I have the slow speed adjuster set at 6-7 clicks closed and high speed fully open, this helps with body roll (I removed my front sway bar). Off road the slow speed adjuster is fully open and the high speed adjuster at 5 clicks closed.

So wait a minute... you put these aweful looking stickers on everyone's shocks, to let the world know the shocks were "tuned" by @AccuTune Offroad, but when it came to your own house brand, your name is nowhere to be found... interesting choice.

 

Hey Bert! The big selling point of our RIDE Shocks is that they do not require the same teardown and re-tuning that our Fox and King offerings need. They are already tuned for your weight and setup because we have multiple SKU numbers to cover the different Weight Ranges.

So adding our stickers to them would be redundant since the RIDE Shocks Stickers is already showing that we tuned the shocks.

Not every customer keeps their "Tuned by AccuTune" stickers on their reservoirs, since it does affect the aesthetics of the shock package, but after riding in a vehicle with a suspension tuned by us most customers elect to keep them on!

We hope you will get to experience it sooner rather than later!
