Troubleshooting a USB port on a 2021

I didn't see anything on this site via search, but I have a 2021 SR5. The USB port that connects to CarPlay seems to have failed. I have a dash cam with a USB adapter in the cigarette lighter, and the camera doesn't power up in the USB port. My iPhone cable powers in the adapter in the cigarette lighter.

Would there be a separate fuse for this USB port? Do these have a tendency to fail overtime? If they do, are they difficult to change? I don't mind digging into a dashboard, but if it's going to be an absolute fight, then I may not want to ruin my dashboard.

 

I would start at simply making sure the connectors are attached to the back and didn’t work its way loose…after you check your fuses obviously, I think #4 is the radio in the under hood box but I’d think your whole head unit would be out of that one is blown.

It’s pretty easy to get to, easiest way to do it is pull the head unit which comes out easy. Once it’s out you can get to the back of the connector, the dash is largely hollow from the radio down and is just wiring. Could also check the other end of the USB that attaches to the head unit itself.

 

I believe that USB port is data only, it is not designed to power devices.

 

Actually, Google did better than this forumssearch engine. There must've been an earlier post about this and I found directions plus the part number if I need to replace it.

I thought the 2021 models didn't have CarPlay.
You might want to try wiping some electrical contact cleaner with a tip before taking apart the dash.

 

Thanks for correcting me, I never use it, but thought it was data only for some reason.

 

Ghost in the machine? I got in my truck this morning and forgot that my port was bad. I plugged in my iPhone lightning cable and I have CarPlay as well as charging.

Thoughts?

Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again? The IT crowd.
